Being successful doesn't mean being perfect, and in some cases not even being "better than .." if there is no real competition.. but i don't really wanna go into higher planes or philosophy stuffs.. which frankly have nothing to do with the game, and moreover my last goal is to make useless flame/garbage speechs. As jeaf said, it's surely based on good sense, but mostly on experience i gathered over the decades of this game.. and on player base longterm needs and issues. In general, as a programmer i tend to map the most bad cases and try to address them since the beginning, instead of "think about it when it happen", that's why i'm asking now at staff what do they think about -those- "quality of life" features that in my opinion do not collide with the very fragile/inflated classic balancing we remember. Ps. Also i forgot another light but very useful feature such as the "keep on fire" thing to the previously listed... There was a time when Uthgard 1.0 existed and maaaany toons and arrpees arose... but now:

If you are a programmer you ought to understand how hard it is to give a specific deadline.
Usually in the business you can multiply your estimation with pi :-D But its really hard to do, also when the devs here arent paid for it but have real life jobs. And also as a programmer, would you ever release your product without being sure it lives up to the minimum expectations? - Honey Badgers

I see that you are being very defensive on your responses, and i know you are close to the staff, but really, i never mentioned something about deadline or minimun requirements of its release.. i perfectly understand that part (even that if uthgard relaunch was a real job/commission, the project manager would have been fired istantly eheh ![]() What i mentioned in my first post were things about enhancing the quality and appreciation (and therefore durability) of uthgard 2.0 by the future players once it will open.. instead of maybe add them later on to increase rvr or help new commers etc. etc. Just askin staff opinion about those useful features There was a time when Uthgard 1.0 existed and maaaany toons and arrpees arose... but now:

Our first goal is to release a server with as little custom features as possible. Maybe give us some time after opening before requesting a ton of custom features?

the best experience is a true daoc classic experience. that includes old realm abilities, as close as possible as they have been on live. yes, also a 30 minute timer on purge. it's good like that. makes skill matter more, makes a good CCer actually meaningful. i dont understand why people are complaining about this. it's the same for everyone. it's not like guy A has a 20 min timer, guy B a 5 min timer and guy C a 30 min timer. it's the same timer for everyone, same rules. and it's what actually sets daoc apart from all the other ****** modern mmos. that skill matters. that timing and decisions matter. that the game is hard to master. adds more depths, adds more playability in the long run.
i think the gms are on a good path now and work is actually being done. and let's be honest with ourselves, classic daoc on uthgard is the only daoc worth playing in my opinion. live can be fun, sure, but it has just drifted too far away from the "real" daoc and it just feels too old and used. too stall. uthgard will combine the classic daoc experience that we all love with the "fresh server setting", where everyone starts from scratch. i am sure there is going to be a healthy population, too. there's so many people waiting for the server to relaunch, despite the 2+ years downtime. the first few months are going to be a blast. |

Do you want to open server for one day anniversary for a stress test? and players can have a sneak preview? Would be a nice thing ![]() best regards Meg |

Nailed it, hardest question to answer to a project manager, or to your wife when you will be home while on a project for that matter. |

Awesome..
![]() I might even play, eventhough i have even less time than before theese days. It's probably time for Hibernia for me, on live i mostly played Mid, on Uthgard 1 mostly Alb. |

I think besides "Estimates in Software Engineering are hard to do" the biggest issue here is also that we're not working on a fixed hour schedule. I don't spend 40h/week every week on Uth; the amount of hours mostly depend on free time, how tired I'm feeling, and what else comes up. So even if we knew that there were only "X hours of work left" (or we could make a reasonable estimate about that), it still wouldn't result in any deadline since we don't know how many hours/week we can contribute.
Be nice. :)

I've seen programmers hate deadlines, but you guys take that to a whole new level
