Hi all, new to Uthgard and liking it so far. I rolled up a Theurgist and was wondering on a specc, Is going earth for PBT better than Ice or Air?
For xping i'd go for ice

Can I respec at 50 still or is Uthgard different? Also, do the ice pets stun/snare or do they just do damage? |
You get a single respec at 20 and 40 here. Only the Air pets stun, the Ice pets have a snare nuke though I believe. [3:10pm] <myrmidon^> You have to be a c*** to be awesome at daoc
[3:10pm] <myrmidon^> that's what I learnt [3:11pm] <Frosty_> then why does austerim suck

Ice is cool but the resist rate of pet spells is totally bugged (if I remember correctly it is 45% against yellow mobs). So quite frustrating when mobs should die with just 3 pets, but sometimes they don't lose half their hps with 4 or even 5 pets.
Also in xp groups they will pull purple mobs which ice pets NEVER hit (I mean really it must be 1% chance at most). I remember my low level earth pets were actually more useful than highest ice pets in that situation:D so you'll just be a haste/damage add bot... Yet I leveled 1-40 with ice spec so it's possible of course but I'm not sure it's the most efficient spec on uthgard :p I am assuming direct control.

Hedra brings up a very valid argument. the resist rate on ice pets blows, particuarly vs high con mobs. an attacker that is rounddown(80%*yourlevel) has a pretty high resist rate. you can overcome this by casting more pets. but then you have countered the efficiency of ice.
The group argument only really becomes an issue post 40. because other than on weekends, groups dont happen on uthgard for sub 40s. Id think full ice to 20 is still the most efficient, after that its probably split whether its best to get the 25 ice pets and then all earth, or just start dumping everything into earth right away. 4 pets on a target, ice or earth will kill it. sometimes you can get away with 3, but in general it seems to even out with resists and misses that you need about 4. |

Most effective way is to go ice spec till 40. You have an easy time if you go grinding spirit vulnerable mobs. It takes 2-3 pets for an yellow/orange con mob. Just make sure to not cast them both at one point. Cast the first then move a bit sidewards and cast another ... if you need three just move a bit again.
![]() Some spots I rember for Ice theurg grinding: ~ lvl 13-16 wind mephits in plains ~ lvl 20-30 llynn barfog. (cythrauls ; wicked cythrauls ; bwgwls ; skeletons at the broken church). All spots have plenty mobs and they are spirit vulnerable. |

always thought ice pets dmg is cold ? :s

It isnt. It's spirit ![]() |

imo i would go air till 40 just nuke low spirit mobs' '' same as for ice pets magic type'' kill 3 4 mobs then alt tab regen etc etc

go ice til 25 then throw everything into earth til 40 , at 40 you will need to decide your final spec , there's a few variations
48 E ( for last Earth Pet) rest ice or air depends what you like 45 E red bt rest ice or air 40 E (2nd best Earth pet/2nd best BT) 36 Air 2nd best nuke / best stun pet/ good mez 45 Air (best nuke / best pet /good mez) 26 E (decent earth pets for interupting and last bt) So it depends on what you want to do in rvr/pve Imo 40 E 36 Air is best and most versatile for rvr grps but I do love my 48 E pets |
40 earth 36 ice isnt bad either.
decent earth pets (60s duration+ fast run), best ice pets (snare nuke), tolerable ae root, and 50 composite ice for baseline nuke. the combo of ice and earth pets is nice. on support it makes it very hard for enemies to clear pets if you mix pet types. and vs tanks, a few ice pets can keep the enemy train permasnared. |
I would never go Ice because the Ice pets were capped at lvl 25 and don't nuke for much at all
What about your previous comment then Frows?
he means only cold as you don't get any higher pet in ice than the lvl 25 one on uth
