If you have to do a big update in this time anyway or you shut down the server for a couple of minutes... But hours of downtime for an April Fool's joke? Come on!

Turning off a server and saying it crashed just isn't funny, because no normal user could verify that claim and it's really plausible. The only funny thing about this April's Fool Joke was, that the admins messed it up themselves by shutting the server down an hour too late. Maybe they forgot about the timeswitch last Sunday

But couple of players had a free day and were happy to play. And no matter how good the idea was, shutting down the service for hours just isn't the right way to promote your server.

Like i said in my first post, combining regular downtime with an April Fool is great. But my understanding is, the downtime was the joke!?

Think about all the other things you could have been doing instead of complaining. You could have played another game...there are thousands. You could have spent the time exercising, cleaning, or just enjoying some fresh air. It is sad really how dependent some of you are to DAoC. The game is free, and a whole day of downtime should not be that big of a deal. I don't think the April Fool's joke was just the server downtime and rollback. I think the joke was also your lives. There's your deep thought for the day

The crash fake should replay the recent problems and bad luck we had in the past with the HDD's in our servers. It was realistic enough to make players believe that we got serious problems again.
