guess you're just having some tough luck :s
buying a laptop for gaming purposes is always a gamble. I used to play all the time on a laptop, it wasnt the best out there but still pretty powerfull, but in the end i was so damned glad to be rid of it. if you have a desktop computer around with enough cpu power, you might be able to fix this (relatively) cheap, ram memory isnt as expensive as it used to be (that reminds me, i still got a 1g of ram laying around in the kitchen, gotta install it) and you could get a gfx-card which meets the minimum requirements for dr if to take time to look for it, maybe a local hardware store still has some laying around or maybe ebay for a second hand one (be carefull though, you can never know what that card went through) since hardware technology evolves so fast it also drops in price relatively fast, you could fine a decent gfx-card for around €100 which is only peanuts compared to the new high-end ones.

This probably isn't the place to ask, but is there anyway I acn fool the server into thinking I'm using 1.9?

That would be cheating/bugusing, as it would eliminate the whole purpose of the version check
Be nice. :)
