My connection to Uth 2.0 has always been 100% stable and fast, even though I live in the US. I have literally never had any problems with it at all - until about 2 weeks ago. Now, I get hit with random waves of extremely high latency and packet loss, which results in chain LD's. Sometimes my connection is perfect, and then sometimes - for an hour or 2 - I have something that resembles a 14.4 kbps dial-up connection to Uth.

I have no idea what's going on, as nothing has changed on my end or on the server's end. This just started out of the blue. When I do a tracert to the server, the problem (as witnessed by packet loss) appears to begin about 2-3 hops after my connection crosses the Atlantic. Can't remember exactly, but I wanna say its "Telia" or something domain (oddly, it's before it gets to Hetzner.de).

Anyone have any experience with a good VPN for playing on Uth? I'm willing to pay more for one that I know is high quality, particularly the connection to the German location of Uth. Any recommendations?
- Love,
Grunkle

Check this.

Mudfish is only like $3 to try, and it goes not by month, but by data and DAoC uses very little. I've not even used a gig of the 25g~ or so you get for the $3.

There is also...

PingZapper
WTFast

These aren't traditional VPN's as I understand it, just "redirection" services that bypass problem nodes, etc.

Mudfish is cheap, but if you are looking for something a bit more... developed and shiny, then WTFast or PingZapper will be more up your alley. I chose Mudfish because it's a one time $3 payment that'll last me forever.

As for your ping - same for me. Lots of random disconnects and ping spikes lately.

I'm central US on Comcast. Out of curiosity, any of that match you?

How's your connection been to Uth since you started using Mudfish? Has it eliminated all problems?

WA, USA on Comcast

My connection usually seems to encounter problems in two places when I use WinMTR

1. New Jersey/East Coast nodes.
2. Hetzner.de once it hits Germany.

Mudfish helps 80% of the time it seems. My overall ping itself came in a few points lower than without it, and has been quite stable. I've still had a few disconnects while using Mudfish, but I think a few of those were genuinely some issue/hiccup with the server.

I'm not 100% sold that Mudfish is an end all be all solution, but for $3 and the simple setup I'm decently happy with what it's done. I usually turn it on when I see connection issues pop up.

Do you use it in Full VPN mode? If so, do you select a node close to you? Or do you think it'd be better to select a node geographically close to the server?

Nope, the DAoC "item" that is in it actually is for Uthgard. I tried to have them add Uthgard in and it turned out that the only DAoC server it was set up to work with was already Uthgard.

Full VPN works too, but that will use more data/put all your other traffic through it.

Usually I let it auto-select a node/path.

From what I understand (which is pretty damned limited)...

- Closer Node to you = Better stability, less focus on speed.
- Closer Node to server = Better speed, stability may suffer.

Let me know how it works out for you - took me a bit to get a hang of it, but once I did I thought it was a decent little $3 pickup.

Depending on specifically what the issue is between Uth and you it may or may not solve your issues. It'll help with bad nodes/routing issues and that's about it I believe.

Usually most of the good vpns by default select the closest Node, and you have an option to select yourself too.
