So here is the background to what I was/am doing.

-Cousin just made a new character and I wanted to help him level, as a cleric I dont really solo mobs well to PowerLevel, so I decided ill just follow him around and buff him/heal after combat.

-I head away from PC and just follow him for roughly 10 minutes, and come back to whispers saying I am being reported about how I am buff botting and thats illegal.

*Note* I have read and understand the rules personally about buffbotting.

To me a buff bot is a 3rd party program or side PC that just runs a dumby cleric around and really does nothing but buff. So my question is am I buff botting? I dont really want to get banned, im just trying to help a friend level.

If you need to take an extended AFK, we recommend you log out. If you were tested during that period there would be no way to distinguish you from being a buffbot.

Out of curiosity, if you fail the first/one test are you immediately banned? I also did something similar the other day with a real life friend, and I'd be pretty disappointed if I was banned because I was I got up to make a sandwich or something.

There's more to it than "I was afk for 5 minutes and got banned". We don't reveal our methods, but if you'd care to PM me I will inquire with the person who investigated.

This is similar to the discussion in the other thread - I'd just like you guys to formally put something into your rules that clearly addresses this so it doesn't sneak up on people. At the very least, it'd be comforting to know you guys allow people a chance to prove they're two different people rather than going immediately to a permanent ban.

We do. The point is, if you're afk for it, there's a problem.

You think I'm joking, but people will call a friend and have them drive over to run their second PC. One can only wait so long. The fact is, we have a no buffbot rule, and if it looks like a buffbot, quacks like a buffbot, and afks like a buffbot, it just might be a buffbot. So don't be a buffbot and log out if you need an extended afk.

The same goes for PL, too -- if you're going to get PL'd, stick around and chat.

So you consider 10 mins as an extended afk?
