Hi all,

My old group of friends and I who grew up on DAoC recently found this and have as of this weekend all jumped on board right back into hib like nothing ever changed. Really hoping they all stick with it and we should have a total of 6-7 of us playing. We used to 8v8 quite a bit on Percival/Tintagel from probably 2002-2007 before all moving on.

I have a few questions though as we get all set up.. I guess most pertain to group composition since lord knows we only wanna go 1-50 once.

1) Are champions/VWs really that bad in groups? I know Det tanks are better but I definitely remember champions running in groups pre-TOA. Was that more of "People were really, really bad at the game back then" kinda thing where good players did well on any setup? I'm assuming the playerbase is probably much better (i.e. not mouse clicking, keyboard turning back peddlers like 99.9% of people used to be) and therefore group composition has become much more streamline?

2) Same question for wardens.. I thought even pre-ToA many groups ran druid/druid/bard/warden/4x dps. Just look at the Dem Hibbies video which is this same patch correct?

3) Also assuming nature druids are a dead spec without buffbots?

That's all I really can think of for now. It's definitely interesting to go back in time as I forgot many things (like bards not having MOC until ToA for example).

Thanks for any help and hopefully we'll see you out there sometime.

I still see mouseclicker in 2017 on daoc. To their defense the key bind system in this game is by far the worse i've seen in a long time.
They aren't that bad but i'd rather have hero or BM in my group as they have det 5. Remember purge is 30 mins cd here so crowd control is quite important (and be able to counter it even more). Unless you have 2 godlike bard that are on point on the juicy demezz 1 champ and 1 VW seems hard to fit in a group let's say one of them maybe not both of them.

Warden are decent support but won't offer much in a 8v8 situation besides buff/support heal/support damage/bubble. They don't have shield spec at this patch so ...meh. But why not.

Ye... Not that good. Healing/support druid is the way to go

The benefit you guys have is all of you have been playing together for some time so when you all group together, you will be able to identify weaknesses and such. However, when some aren't on, the VW and Champ might have trouble finding groups that are more accepting for 8 Man at least. Det is FTW in this patch. VW are pretty squish as well.

I will give you this. Group setups are catered to the group there is an ideal group based on math and then there are groups based on players.

1) are valewalkers and champs that bad? As far as group goes the lack of det is what make them hard to group. Valewalkers in this era had ALOT of damage but were easily cc'd out. You can argue with root the Valewalker can lifetap to interrupt. Champions run into the same barrier. IT brings alot of utility with the dd and the debuffs but Once secondary cc happens that is damage you can consider out of the fight. So by putting in a hero or a bm as replacement you are adding in another tank whos abilty to impact a team fight sooner after secondary cc is added out. So no they are not that "bad" and are groupable but in this era CC really matters especially with purge timers.

2) Wardens.....In this era they are the pve masters! PVP they could thud something solo but group wise they do not bring a lot to the table with no shield spec. Wardens got a lot of group play once toa kicked in. People here will argue they have a side snare. I would say a second bard for an extra demez and non twisting speed 6,cc secondary, lul or another tank with shield slam peel would be more effective then a "side snare" for peels. There heals are huge power eaters and the group heal is not so great. They do bring pbt vs a tank heavy meta and body, energy and spirit resists. So they can do some damage mitigation. Again its based on the group of players I personally would run a second bard or another hero.

3) Also assuming nature druids are a dead spec without buffbots? This one sux I loved back in this era nature druids were a thing, but sadly it is safer to run 2 that way your entire group does not lose specs when the single druid buffing druid goes down. Nature druids brought alot of utility with the pet and the ae root and insta roots, since buffbots aren't allowed its not worth running. all though it would be interesting to see a 3 druid 1 bard group. That could be argued for with 3 group purges.

If you run a warden make sure he specs 49 nurture and at least 26 regrowth. Have to have red resists, red PBT, and capable healing output. I don't know how wardens will be in 8v8 but red resists, PBT, and castable group bubble should provide some damage mitigation and I believe their resists are for both mid and alb main mezzes.

Thanks for the help everyone. A lot is coming back to me and making more sense... I forgot that det is a busted 75% reduction and purge is only 4 pts for bm and hero.

We actually don't have a warden or champ, and the VW (my brother) rerolled druid since we only had me on it. Unfortunately he's a firby druid and will only play nature because his whole life he's been obsessed with bad specs and classes lol.

There's 7 of us total right now with druid/druid/bard/hero/bm/ench/ment. We have an 8th who's on the fence (and played daoc more than any of us in its prime) but he's hesitant to go down the rabbit hole again. I look forward to hitting 50 in the hopefully near future. I streamed our shenanigans last night and was a lot of fun. We've mostly all hit our low 20s so well be there eventually :/

One buff druid one nature druid(36nature 40heal) is best for 8v8.firbolg is pretty bad though.
Instant as root is very strong vs caster grp and the green pet is also handy.
Just make sure enough ppl in grp have a dq charge and you can still fully buff everyone.

What is a dq charge? Is that the buff pot?

Edit: oh do you mean the charges on gear you can /use?

A charge refers to a /use on an item. Pots may be of use to you as well because even though they provide a lower buff value, it may be hard to obtain a charge item for everyone right away while pots are easy to buy.
