Disproportionate amount of auto training on Alb?

Let me preface this by saying I hate AT, and I think its one of the lamest mechanics in the game. So with that Bias laid out, is it just me or does Alb seem to have a disproportionate amount borderline 'required' autotraining classes?
Examples: - Minstrel - Paladin - Reaver When I say borderline 'required' I mean that they receive a significant boost when autotraining when compared to say a warrior in Mid who just gets ~2 extra parry points. Instead of just missing out on a % or 2 of parry, these alb classes get access to significantly better styles/spells etc. Totally turns me off playing some of my favorite alb classes so I'll probably just roll mid, but wanted to vent after entertaining the thought of ATing a minst or reaver. *edit* I know its not uthgards fault, but WTF was mythic thinking |

It does suck, because even on melee classes everyone is crush until 40 which is boring to see on every arms/paladin/merc. No Reavers use flex until after 40. AT detracts from the game much more than it adds.

No man, you do not understand. It sucks, but it's good. It's like it was back then so even if it actually sucks, it's awesome.
Or this is what some people think... |

I started a thread in beta that got to like 14+ pages if I recall arguing about autotrain.
At the end, the devs claim it's a balance issue. I don't understand this line of thinking, but to be honest their answers given usually don't hold up much to logic. It is what it is, Albion gets disproportionately ****** by it, and the mechanic is stupid as ******. It does nothing but add dead weight to the game and I've got no idea why anybody would seek to include it. Edit - here is the thread, read it and realize this is a dead end discussion. viewtopic.php?f=9&t=36746 |

It has been said before, but if it was removed there would need to be some additional amount of points added to the total spec points allowed to these classes, IMO. When I played my Hero there was no AT option, but on my Arms I ATed until 40 because it was not really a hindrance to my leveling and why not get the benefits, but Arms' pole damage is dependent on the 1H spec line you put points in to. This was not the case with my Hero, who simply was 50 LW and could use any variety of LW without any penalty or benefit based on the 1H spec lines.
It is striking to see so many classes have ATing on Alb, and while I agree that it is a lousy mechanic that should not have been in the game in the first place, it's hard to blame anyone from trying to gain a benefit by doing it now that it is in Uthgard 2.0. If I was running a normal exp group I wouldn't take an AT paladin not being leetist but I don't think a paladin gains that much at 50 with AT the number of additional skill points doesn't grant it some super bonus only a few extra points in a style. Minstrel is different with AT they gain additional stealth more weapon skills etc.
Also same for reaver yeah the chain styles are good but you don't need them until 50 for the rear style. Ok a minstrel in a group without a sorc with AT going to suck, but so many more sorcs you can get away without a minstrel with power song BUT they got to dps and swinging a weapon 40+ a bit different people like the absorb buff. |

Minstrels (who aren't going the visi/group-only spec of 50 Instruments/44 Thrust) do just fine without autotraining. Instru/Slash Minstrels lose like 2 levels of stealth without it. Big deal.
That said autotraining is ridiculous and stupid and it should be removed but blah blah 1.65 blah blah devs are stubborn. |

This has always been my experience with Uthgard devs. Either they've usually got ulterior, unspoken motivations for what they do, or they're just really that bad at reasoning. |

yeah alb gets the shaft when it comes to AT cuz you need to subspec your 1h line.

I actually autotrained a char back in the days (a merc, full AT to 48, got helped by guildies though), so I know how boring it is.
Now I play a hunter, a non-autotraining class on the realm that has few autotraining classses. My counterpats ranger/scout do get autotrain. Still I fully support the idea of people getting those points for free like it is nowadays, AUTOTRAIN is a toxic feature, it s a pain to everyone in the game. It actually hurts the gaming experience of both ATers, non-ATers, and the general gaming experience, on alb at least. I know it weighted a lot in my decision to go Mid and not play a minst like I did on beta. ![]() |
