My brother and I are planning on playing 2 characters that will be our "farem" characters, but we also want these characters to be fun to play in 8v8 RvR as well. We were planning on doing a Sorc and Thuerg. not sure if this is the best route or not. Let me know your thoughts.

We havent played much with casters so this will definetly be a change of pace for us. (mostly Stealth classes as we play US times, solo is normally the best way to go). We were wondering if there would be a good melee duo that would satisfy the above as well (usable in 8v8 RVR).

I think the best route would be sorc + cab.

Melee duo? Pally + armsman/merc.
Perfect for grouping (Alb needs tanks) but its going to be hard to roam as a duo with no speed.

Personally i like the sorc + friar duo. You get base buffs, good cold resist, a meleer that doesnt need endo regen to kill stuff and can cure disease and rezz. And the sorc can do everything else. But its also going to be a problem finding a group with a friar.

Not sure if I could talk him into playing a Cabalist, but we will see. I agree that it would be the ideal Duo moving forward.

I also had the Friar Sorc duo in mind, but the friar seems to be very useless later on (overall).

Paly and Merc. would definetly work. the Whole You need to Auto Train thing sort of drives me nuts. Its a big reason i cant even consider a minstrel at this point.

Sorc & Smite Cleric?

Would certainly have plenty of toys to play with plus buffs / heals / instas / spd / CC / stun.

Could be interesting, plus still a cleric so will have buffs or heals for 8 vs 8 for example (whatever you spent the rest of the pts on).

Smite cleric is totaly useless for anything else than solo. Since there is no rr5 and 30 min purge timer he's not even that good like on uthgard 1 anymore. Just roll a mind sorc and a 40/35/9 cleric. You gonna get raid grps you gonna get 8v8 grps and you got one of the best duos to run if there is only smallman action.

I disagree -- smite cleric can be really useful in small man. Utility is high, buffs are there, heals are still good especially if combined with sorc healing pet, and can help on assist with more damage than baseline smites. Ideal small man for me is Mind sorc, smite cleric, and caba. Assuming your sorc can CC half decently, a smite cleric is more useful than a traditional rejuv cleric (strictly for small man purposes)

Either you got decent dmg with smite or decent buffs with enhancement. You won't have both if you want to heal at all. Ofc utility is high, on paper. but imagine a 3v3. You are oom after like 5-6 smites. So after the first one is dead you are a buffbot with green /blue specs, amazing. Even tho a sorc / cabby duo is dealing like 3-5x the dmg you do. Each of em, with a higher cast speed. You gonna lack high body resists and a lot of buff and heal power.

Sorc + Cleric is one of the best duos in the game hands down if played correctly.

If you are fighting 1-3, they don't have any good options if some of their friends are mezzed. They either follow the sorc and get junked by the cleric, or they follow the cleric and get junked by the sorc. Plus, full buffs for both of you, plus heal battery, 9 sec stun for when you win mezz and focus.

IN REALITY: You have every form of CC in the game. It's not a problem locking down people if you pay attention. You mezz them and they purged? You can root. Root wore off? You can stun. Etc

That's what me and my buddy are going to roll. And hopefully meet a good minst who likes to play with us and 3-man our way to high RR.

That is a good trio indeed...especially as it seems pets and charmed mobs do quite well on uthgard in terms of damage. Buff up a level 50 pet or have the sorc go for the high root/dmg spec and still have a buffed green pet that can be annoying. I'd enjoy running in a trio like that. If you became masters at kiting you it could be quite powerful.

As a duo I think sorc + minstrel could be pretty powerful for PvE and rvr as well.

Sorc (Fire Debuff + Mez) and my Fire Wiz should make a great combo

Sorc + necro would be fastest lvling imo, just chain pull and power xfer. The necro however is very much a love/hate class at 50 rvr.

Wups didnt read the duo is for XPing and then 8v8
For the XPing part just take any 2classes that are viable 8v8 classes and build your own xping grp around it when you log in. No need to overthink the choice here. Pick what you want.

Anyway here comes my opinion on 2vX duos, or small men in general for RvR:
Dont do any pseudo duos/small men without speed5+endu pots if you dont play stealthers.
None-speed 5 visible might be nice for organized XvX events, but your benchmark will be the crude reality of emain. And that is either get rolled by superior numbers, or you can run away and pick your fights.

Cleric & Sorc is good i think.

You can easily build an xp group around those two (buff + heal + pom) just fill with whatever you want and you are good to go.
You can easily duo in RvR, even if one of you guys need to be alchemist for pots.
You can easily join 8v8 with those two characters.

The bad point : If you only want to xp as a duo, you won't have enough dps/power ratio.
