Long story short, Windows XP is outdated, insecure (due to being not developed anymore) and a "fix" would require a lot of work, which the dev team cannot justify to invest for the few people refusing to upgrade to even Windows7 (which itself is pretty old by now). Presumably, you can play using Wine (i.e. Linux) though, if that helps. ![]() |

Daoc release date ?
Uthgard release date? even older than XP. Pretty valid argumentation. |

You'll note we're not using the original DAOC client.

I know that you have put lot of effort into this and are probably proud of all the programming (+time) that went into the new version. I am thankful of you guys waisting your free time for others to have fun, basically. But your attitude in this thread is not mature, Mr. Abydos.
Although I do not use Win XP I can totally understand the people that still do. When I started playing daoc (around release in 2003) all it took was to pay 10€ and install from cd, then it worked. When I was told "there is a freeshard!11" my flatmate at university set me up with doc portal and stuff as I was not into computers beside the gaming aspect and failed to get going alone. That being said I can feel how frustrating it is for players that are unable to connect (without proper help). And even for those who managed to connect it was more effort required that connecting via daocportal or other shards with their own launchers. They managed to connect to Uth1 and the game itself did not change, it even got set back to an earlier version. Now all of a sudden they cannot connect anymore because of issues that are vague (considering point of view of a not-into computer-person). Presumably, these people are roughly my age (in their thirties ++), got family and kids and just want to be young again 1 or 2 evenings a week playing a game they loved and that probably was reason for failing a couple of exams. I can totally understand them. But hey,... Windows 7 is from 2009, let´s make fun of people that use even older versions. |

I am not making fun of people using Windows 7, rather, the intent was to articulate how long had actually passed. Technology moves forward, and at some point there is a minimum supportable level where everything will work together. Much the same as you will largely be unable to browse most of the modern internet on a 56k modem, support for it will, over time, fade. This is the case with Windows XP - the effort involved to make it function given the new technologies that are employed to make Uthgard happen means that it is currently too large of a time investment to complete, as we've stated publicly before.
