G'day.
In your opinion, what are the best/worst classes to play in rvr with a high ping? Thanks very much. |

Animists in Keepdefense should work... and maybe a Melee if youre not the MA becouse once you sticked youre at least doin your Autoswing. But tbh you wont have much fun in RvR with a really bad Ping... =/
Worst: All CC Classes, All rupt Classes, All Healer Classes, All Cast DPS Classes... ---------- Djamak ---------
<West Albion Explorers> Level 49 Briton Sorcerer ---Grandmaster Tailor--- -----------RR 2L2---------- ----------Rilan 281-------- |

Join the tank assist train if you have bad ping IMO. Stick to MA and assist.

You mustn't assume that your personal situation is a reflection of every other person that has logged in to Uthgard. |

Best : Zerker

What about Savage? It worked for Mgda with his "lag". ![]() [3:10pm] <myrmidon^> You have to be a c*** to be awesome at daoc
[3:10pm] <myrmidon^> that's what I learnt [3:11pm] <Frosty_> then why does austerim suck

I noticed some really annoying issues while levelling a zerker. Target not in view when you try to adjust yourself. Failing positionals because you try to attack too quickly after changing positions. Things like that. I was planning on rolling a melee character initially but if it was annoying me in pve I can't imagine how frustrating it will be in rvr. I'd rather just play a caster and put up with the latency honestly. While levelling casters i didn't notice spellcasting delay much. Was definitely not as bad as melee styles

Let's be honest, with a high ping every character will underperform. Even as high ping Animist you will probably be easily sniped, if you try to place your shrooms outside. Don't forget how DAoC movement works. If you walk to an edge and stop at the edge, as long your lag goes you walk down that edge and you are "in LoS" for any attacks, even sneaky melees might be able to get a hit on you.
Also in an assist train it can be high beneficial to land a side style, because they tend to other some snare component. Else you can just spam back style/any timer backup. Not to mention you might be the one being attacked and attacking pack, Evade combos are strong. If you can't follow the combo you will lack also a lot. Let's be honest: try to fix your high ping instead of trying to play around it. About how much ping are we talking about here? 100ms? 200ms? 1000ms? |

Animist. Cast pets, afk.
The only people that use signatures with actual information only proves they think they are better then everyone else.
Pweet - Go suck your own. The GMs dont need your sucking. |

Appreciate the replies thus far.
Fair enough. Could a vpn potentially help improve speeds? Pinging the server, I range from 275ms-375ms (depends on the time of the day, if my partner is using the internet, etc.). In game, the client reads a solid Circle Triangle Circle 95% of the time (the centre triangle will occasionally turn green for a few seconds and will rarely turn a red square for a few seconds). PVE is fairly smooth, though haven't tested out RVR yet (still relatively low level). Cheers. |

Yes, VPN can actually improve the ping experience. But it can't nullify the lose due to distance or overloaded ocean cables. There are even some online services using this fact to sell a game ping improving service, though I doubt they will be able to help with routing towards Uthgard.
You will have a make some data to be able to determine the potential. Pathping is a slow, but helpful tool being shipped with Windows. Just type "pathping 5.9.152.140" in a command line prompt and get some drinks. This will show you the hopes at which your ping increases, the route it takes and maybe even where packet lose is involved. Now you do the same for some other German servers. If it's possible to get a significant quicker trace route, VPN or proxy could do magic. If all routes to European mainland are that slow, you are stuck with these pings. |
