Honor Before Greed - A Personal Oath

(TL;DR at the bottom)
I, Zekral, hereby pledge my honor to never kill a player of grey standing towards me aside from self defense. There is no honor in killing such a low ranking warrior even if they are an enemy of the realm, as I should be able to prove myself on opponents of equal skill. Should a low ranking warrior ever wish to test their mettle against me, they need only to beckon me and I shall bow to their courage and fight or dismiss them with a wave and be on my way. This oath is a personal testament to my own honor, I understand that others have differing views and they may go their own way so long as it does not disrupt my own morals. There is no gain in true experience against low ranking warriors, killing them for points of the realm is an act of greed and against the mantra of my oath: Honor Before Greed. This set of standards is lenient so that it may fit into any situation while still maintaining a set of guidelines to adhere by. (Optional - In regards to grey killers) My mantra of Honor Before Greed runs so hot in my blood, that witnessing the act of others slaughtering low ranking warriors disgusts me. I shall share my oath with others, show them that honorable victories with comrades will lead to more satisfying battles. I will show them that killing for greed will only lead to a lonely and unsatisfied existence. Spreading this mantra is a peaceful way to destroying my enemies. But if it is not enough, I can be more proactive in destroying this greed. I will disown anyone I have witnessed slaughter a low ranking warrior for greed, no longer calling that person a comrade. My honor will not be sullied by being near their taint, I will isolate them from those I call my honorable comrades. If people wish to know of this person's greed, I will not hesitate to let the truth be known. This is the hostile way of eliminating my enemies. (Author's Thoughts) This isn't part of the oath, but some things I wanted to include. I have never enjoyed the thought of killing grey players, it never seemed right in my mind. I have even gone out of my way to be friendly to grey players from other realms if I ever happen across them, simply bowing to them, and being on my way. You would be surprised how many people will /cheer you for simply not killing them. But I recently saw someone ask if you still get RP for killing greys(Which I don't know if you do on Uthgard) and I replied that I disown grey killers and no one should know the answer to that. Obviously, I got flak for my statement so I typed: Honor before greed and stopped looking at chat. Surprisingly, no one else commented after that which prompted me to share my ideals in a thread on the forum. Now, keep in mind, this is what I believe and how I go about my life. I simply wanted to share how I felt with others in a way that they could join me in my ideals. If people agree with how I feel and want it to be known, simply copy what I have said and include your own name in place of mine. Whether you put your forum name, character name or multiple character names is up to you. Also, keep in mind that if you decide follow along with the optional side to this oath, not to take it to a point that you are harassing other players. It is a far more extreme view of how I feel about things but I don't make it a habit to actively smear the names of other players. TL;DR version: I promise not to kill grey players. This is an oath the author has made, is sharing with the community and you can pledge your honor to the oath by copying/pasting it in your own post with your own name. Do not harass other players, but make it known you will not tolerate grey killers. And remember the motto: Honor Before Greed. |

I actually had a good laugh at that. |

I've never seen the reason to grey kill. One of the few exceptions I had a mixed feeling about was clearing out DF after taken it over. Though since your own grey realm mates would never contest with other grey realm enemies on a spot, because below that level you are usually not able to roam freely to other regions that easily.

Once I get my characters to a high enough level, the only clearing out I will end up doing is enemy players that have that ability to cross the middle area and get to another realm's entrance. I have a hard time believing that group killing lilispawns or rocots on Alb side is going to make their way over to the newly opened Hib entrance and kill a group that is still starting on plated fiends.
In the end, I see no justice or honor in killing someone who has no way of defending his/herself from me unless they are disturbing my realmmates. And the idea of slaughtering greys for cheap RPs is disgusting to me, hence the term Honor Before Greed. |

It's not about the kill treat, but the level and farm spot competition: Our DF, our spots. So clearing all shared spots like kitchens, reapers, drinkers and higher spots is obviously "helping the realm". Killing some level groups between rats and lillis is as you mentioned just grieving the players of the other realm. It's not helping your low realm mates, and not helping your high level realm balance. Preventing other realm to farm in DF, means they will be weaker in the next relict raid for example - so driving them out, even without occupying the spot itself, is still assisting the own realm. So this kind of "clearing" has at least some kind of "realm level meaning" behind it. But just killing the lowbies... I never really understood the reason behind it. I mean how low you have to get to 1vs8 a grey group... if you kill them, you won't be able to brag about it to have achieved anything. Actually you risk yourself to lose against them.
![]() So theoretically a legitimate reason to kill a group at rocots would be for example, if your own DF part is overpopulated, and you help some low level group to the other realm side, and if the spot happens to be occupied by an enemy realm, you clear it by force for you own realm group to claim that spot. Spot competition is what DF is about imho.. Honour to people wining a "fair" fight (3fg vs. 1fg is still fair, since the 1fg was aware of the possibility to be outnumbered). But going out of the way to "hunt" grey just to grieve them is beyond my understanding. And everyone actually sticking to the policy to not attack greys unless provoked gains my approval. |
