Being a .NET developer myself I wonder if the launcher really needs to be compiled for .NET 4.6. Does the project contain dependencies on functionality that wasn't available in earlier versions?

Yes.

I'm sure I can rewrite the launcher to also work on 4.5, but it requires some time, and right now I don't have that
Be nice. :)

Yes

Is it because of the System.IO.Compression.FileSystem assembly? And if the answer is 'yes', do I get a free unique reskin on launch?

That is one of them, yes. Also some other smaller language features. It's basically a bunch of code that would have to added elsewhere or refactored, which is a bit of "meh" to do for an operating system that is no longer supported anyway.

No reskin for you though :(

I guess you're making use of async/await. I've read that there's a nuget package enabling these features for .NET 4.0, but haven't tried that myself (nuget.org). In my projects I don't support XP neither so I can understand your decision to not rewrite/refactor your code.

May I ask which obfuscation tool you use for your assemblies? I've been using the last free version of Eazfuscator but started to get some errors lately.

I customized the code of "obfuscar" some time ago, and have been using that since then :)

Thanks for your replies, I was hoping it wouldn't be that complicated of a fix, but it is what it is.

So I'm guessing this problem won't be resolved in the very near future??

FWIW, in the poll (→ viewtopic.php?f=47&t=37090) "Windows XP" can be selected.

Please create a new Launcher compatible with Windows XP, so that all the people who cannot afford to upgrade their OS/system, can help you with the BETA and finding and reporting bugs.

There are many people who still use Windows XP, whether it's "secure enough" or not isn't really the issue here, if the game runs perfectly on XP, then the launcher should also, doesn't this make sense?!

If this is too hard to do, then atleast allow us WinXP users to login via Daoc Portal, as a temporary fix.

You can buy yourself an used laptop with Windows 7 for about 100 €, Daoc will run perfectly fine on it.

The benefit for rewriting the launcher to support win xp is in no way worth the effort. Only about 2% of all users are still using it (http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey). In my opinion the staff has to focus on way more important stuff. Just update already, your os is 14,5 years old.
