You have to leave it at level 1/not train it. Well, you have to have NOT trained the skill when you hit the autotrain level in order to get the free points. |

According to http://uthgard.blogspot.com/p/albion-class-guide.html, "At 24 you will autotrain your Instruments high enough to be able to charm a level 7 filidh which will heal you. You will then be able to chain orange mobs without any downtime due to unlimited healing."
I don't know if those heals keep you alive all the way to 50, and it's probably still quite slow to level...but that could ease the pain if ATing a minst without PL help. |

AT is only useful if you plan to go 44 Thrust. But Slash has the better anytimer and better endgame weapon drops. AT on a Minstrel isn't really worth it unless some Cab PLs you to 40 at goblins

That's what I was looking for - the level where you can at least charm something. Good to hear it's fairly early on, that's doable.
