Want to roll a Minstrel but everyone keeps saying to do the 50 Inst 44 AT thrust.

What if I don't want to AT? Am I gimping my character?

I really want to roll a Highlander Minst and go slash to be honest.

In my opinion play what you want. If you know the ins and outs of your character you can make things work for you. And a highlander playing songs for the fellas and slashing foes sounds about right. :D

Honestly I'm probably not going to AT either.

If things change down the road and I'm doing SO MUCH 8V8 and I just have to have 44 Thrust then I'll go 49 Instruments. (shrug)

Any indications that alb 8v8 groups, or any rvr groups going to run with a Minstrel at all?

I´m gonna AT but only to 32, I have been fiddling with char builder, and 35 extra points is about right for my build.

It's not necesarry in any way to go AT on a minstrel when not leveling in a setup group that is prepared for that. You can go Slash and 50 Instruments and get a nice side snare which is almost as good as the anytime follow up or just go for the 44 Thrust Specc and live with 49 Instruments.

im wondering...
why would one go 49 instruments and not 45 when you cant hit 50 instruments anyway?

I would think this has to do with minstrel charm.

Yep you're right no reason to go for more than 45 Instruments if you can't reach 50 anyway

a minst at all? 2minst setup would be they way to go for 8v8

that being said, i rly dont think the 44 thrust is so important, 2hit chain with low bonus and ur low wpn skill, gL hitting that on target u want to peel

I will absolutely be autotraining. Whether it be for 44 thrust, or 50/37/25 or 50/33/30. The benefit is too good, and I'll be spending most of my time at 50, anyhow.

There's no mastery of focus at this patch level. You want 50 instruments for that DD. You want it for the pets. You want it for the ablative. That's 90% of your damage, because minsts excel at kiting. Also, landing the two part thrust chain will be no problem because you have a little thing called instant stun.

Appreciate the feedback guys. I decided no to AT, MAYBE for Uthgard Live but definitely not for beta. My opinion really.

Partial AT is always an option. I am debating going 50 instrument / 32 stealth / 29 slash while auto training instruments until level 20. I don't think I want to go through the full AT process solo without a group lifting me up. Plus - I would like to participate in RvR in the Battlegrounds and not just rush to level 50 to try and template out.
