Looking foward to playing on uth again! Although I only got to enjoy the very end of uth 1.0, it was a blast. It seemed to be lacking the casual players in 50 rvr which was kinda frustrating (being a casual) but with the rerelease the casual player base should be high for atleast a year or two.
1. Will there be a unlimited range on buffs? I remember playing my NS around this patch lvl and hated the fact buffed SB/hunters had end5 and the other stealth classes didnt. 2. Will high lvl chars be able to PL low levels quickly? I remember you couldn't really do this on uth 1.0 and I hope it stays the same. Bringing my brother and a few friends to uth 2.0 for some fun small man action. We will be playing on Mid during NA prime mostly. |

Buff bots are against the rules, as is any dual logging. Part of that (I believe) is that buffs DO have a range - I'm guessing here, of about 2000-3000 (shrug). And before you ask, you and your brother can play together (if you live together) - just make sure that if one of you needs to afk that they log out so it doesn't look like you're botting. I'm not sure either. Certainly Uthgard does not have some of the more popular live PL spots like Modengrav (Mid) nor things to make it easier like fonts of power. I think PL is possible but obviously won't happen for quite a while anyway. Nezix - 50 Minstrel <The Band>

Guy named Euro playing NA primetime. ![]() 1. I don't want to misunderstand you but buffbots are not allowed. 2. Powerleveling has always been something that can be done, but will probably not be an issue during the initial launch of the server. Dearyo Drum

Is anyone here planning on playing with a Mac? I have PC but two friends who are keen to start and would be new to the game only have Macs. If anyone knows the best way to connect on them it would be super useful to know (asides the plan to join for Uthgard, they don't play games on their macs and I know nothing about Macs)

Dual boot, or no daoc. google boot camp for mac

I hope more people will get interested in this issue when Open Beta comes. Hopefully someone can get wine working. As it is now on mac you have two options, bootcamp, or virtualization with either parallells or fusion. On Linux you have VMware Workstation/Player and qemu/kvm. In any case you are looking at a 4,8 gb (game) + os, so maybe ~11 gb of space needed for the virtual machine. DAoC is not a very taxing game, so playing inside a vm is not a big concern. |
|
Based on the patch level only, no real evidence until beta. There is no range on buffs, but you cant log on someone to give you timed buffs to log out. People power lvl all the time, but to get a bunch of guildies to do so is difficult sometimes. It is much more fun to just lvl a toon. |
|
to work around the realm timer you basically need to have multiple master accounts which isn't allowed either, so once you get caught all your master accounts they somehow realise are yours get banned. quite a risk. have fun trying though

What. Don't use virtualization/emulation for gaming. My friend says PlayOnMac works good for him on his Macbook pro, he is testing on Live. Alternatively I run Linux without problems (Macbook Air mid 2013 with Archlinux) and the same setup can be made on OSX. Use Wine-staging (https://github.com/wine-compholio/wine- ... n#mac-os-x) with CSMT (commandstream multithreading) for better graphic performance or Gallium Nine (testing it now). Also, you no longer need to compile Wine from src with the vertex shader patch: in new versions the cata models work out of the box (https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6955). Furthermore if you want to nerd use Schedtool or similar to tune your core affinity and renice (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ga ... thing_else). Make sure you kill your composite manager and unneeded services. Works better than Windows. If you have overflow of ram you can synch the game to a ramdisk for better perf. Set your CPU frequency governor to performance, I also unload intel_powerclamp module on my system since kindle_inject make me lag..who needs stability anyways^_^. Huh, Uthgard is going to reopen
|
|
Virtualization is not a choice, it is a necessity:( Uthgard is a bit different from other free-shards, and live. This means that you will most likely not be able to use the same setup for Uthgard that you got working on other shards (even uth 1.0), or on live. I do hope you will be around for the open beta. It is a dream to get something working on OS X and Linux. |
|
My computer is not powerful enough to use virtulization for gaming I intend to make uth work with wine.

Has the dev team ever considered using an old DAoC client instead of modifying the live client?

(the friend mentioned in norlins post)
MAC OSX GUIDE, tested on Live & Genesis. Will update this bastard once Uthgard is in Beta mode. Original thread is from Codeweavers Forum, but I'm new here so can't post links just yet. This worked for me: Setup was done manually in PlayOnMac: - Install d3dx9_36, dontnet20, Microsoft Core Fonts, XML3 & XML4, vcrun6, vcrun2005. Configure DAoC install and click Display tab. - Disable GLSL Support - Direct Draw Renderer: OpenGL - Offscreen rendering mode: pbuffer - Enable Multisampling Configure WINE - Graphics: Emulate a virtual desktop (I went 1920 x 1080); when you start DAoC, you'll need to go into setup and scroll to correct resolution. Use classic water.. or you'll see a big vast void of black nothing where water should be. ![]() A virtual desktop seems to stabilize the install for me.. if I let it go true full screen, it's unstable, especially if I tab out to another app..
