I've typed out long responses to this thread 3 times on different days.

Everytime I end up erasing it, because it hurts my brain trying to explain this concept clearly to people who haven't had a lot of experience playing peel tank. :wall:

Armsman is vastly superior to merc for peeling because of crippling blow.

Care to elaborate? You went to the trouble of finding an image to represent your feelings, surely words can't be that hard?

I'm not sure of the exact values here, but surely if i'm using the fastest thrust wpn available, i get close to 2 attacks for the fastest polearm? So basically the effect of me missing one of those attacks is the same as the polearm missing it's attack? In addition to this when i do land the snare i get it for 27 seconds as opposed to 12 seconds so i get LOTS more chances at landing it again before it expires...

You will break your snare with the first thrust style when you reapply it. With pole you can just spam your snare and permasnare + dmg.

Does anyone remember what the OP wanted to know? xD i think you all made him run away with all this ''my ****** smells better than yours'' he just wants to know what melee class will deal the most damage.

Both seems cool just give them a try in beta!~

Exactly. and with the fast pierce weaps you wont hurt them a bit. So I preferr a SPAMMABLE 12s high dmg snare over a low dmg 27 snare where you cant hit them after you apply the snare, because you would break it again.

the thrust snare is a good idea when you can forget the target afterwards.

the pole is a good idea when you stay on target and dont wanna lose it because you break your snare on it and get snared yourself dring that.

reaver levispam. but then again...no det.

so if you are not planning on playing paper-daoc when uthgard goes live the answer you are looking for is "merc".

My advice to the OP. You got some good (maybe others not) advices about both classes, TRY BOTH and decide yourself which one you like more.

Private video, Top! It won't show for anyone else.

If you are wanting the highest chance to get a group, arms and merc are both good classes with each their own benefits.

For a push tank to dish out damage, merc is probably a bit better, with better defense penetration against a guarder, better chance to proc prevent flight (2x weaps), but less overall style utility.

Arms will hit harder than a merc and has much more style utility and is better suited to a peeling role. They can still fill in the role of push dps, but merc is probably a bit better suited for that. Bladeturn will hurt an arms more, but I have a feeling you won't be fighting very many groups with a warden or a runemaster here. Plus, mercs can't get bucket helms :)

In raw dps i preferr Merc over arms. Frontload wise arms is better. Pally mins arawn and friar cant be countded als good melee dps because they dont have det or have low dmg or both.

Firstly, Thanks Top for the video! You have definitely persuaded me not to go 44 thrust on my merc :)

I agree with you now that at least until rr5+ when prevent flight enters the equation the armsman is going to be the better choice for peeling. I guess when they give us high RR for testing we can see how PF will work here.

My main worry with armsman is that with the old style tireless + lack of money in first few months (for end pots) people are going to be running paladins mainly and then would def take a merc over an armsman as an extra tank. I'm gonna spec for shield to help out with slam and use flank whilst slammed to help out peeling, but generally be offensive with merc i guess.

Again, thanks for the help, thats been really useful :)
