Happy holidays!

I am playing Alpha and checked the Beta server just yesterday, it still plays horrible. I hope their upcoming Beta version is a MASSIVE improvement, otherwise it will be unplayable ugly. |
|
Yup - I don't like what I've seen so far too. But well it's an old school alpha...

I can tell you sound salty,
Is it because you still after 3 years can't come to terms with the fact that your precious Uthgard is gone, and not going to come back ? I would tell you to go do whatever it is you do to deal with your saltyness, But I think its obvious that this IS how you deal with it. ![]() |

you typed all that while playing ESO, right?

How can anyone play ESO.... also are we going for a record here for longest time between news? At this point you might as well take your time and not rush to go live with a crappy @ss server.

ESO could have been pretty cool, but they kinda messed it up. Way too much phasing, megaserver (lol what?) and RvR too zergy and cap on AoE.
And Camelot Unchained.. I don't know, man. The idea is cool and everything, but it's not looking good right now. And probably still years away, at least if they want to get it right. Shoul have just made DAoC 2. Same principle, same 3 realms but with better graphics and updated gameplay elements but still stay true to the DAoC principle of endgame RvR. |

That would be like a dream come true for me. |

I think whether there is news or not, Uth staff should definitely come out and give us some sort of update. At least something like "the project is not yet dead, kkthxbye".
I mean... how hard can it be to give us a small update. |

How nobody capitalized on that I'll never know ![]() |

it's a good question, that's for sure. the problem was, i think, that they sold out to EA. So they couldn't really make the decision themselves anymore if it is worth it to make a second part of DAoC. Also it is important to keep in mind that it would be much more expensive to make that game. The original DAoC was around 5-6M $ back in 2000-2001. Mark Jacobs mentioned it in some blog as far as i know. And the game back then had a lot of features for an MMO of its time, you could say that it was revolutionary in a lot of ways. Now if they would make a proper DAoC 2 in nowaday's times it would be more expensive, for sure. The "perfect" game would have the following features (at least that's how I imagine it): Very good graphics (think Black Desert or Witcher 3 like), a world that feels engaging and alive, no instancing whatsoever, no phasing, single servers, not too questing heavy, 3 realm RvR with character progression and no fast-travel teleporting. Just a very immersive mmo with the lore of albion, hibernia and midgard and a very immersive world. And it would have to be hard and challenging, not something that hands you everything without you having to work for it. Now I have no idea if a game like that would be commercially successful or not. I always imagine that to be the dream-MMO for me, but I don't know how many people would play something like that and buy it. |
|
No, such a game would totally not be commercially successful, it might be after many years but no modern publisher would ever take this risk. Marc Jacobs knows that and that's why he went on Kickstarter. EA will never again do a DAoC2, the business risk is way too high and after all, EA and others are Wallstreet driven companies. Big money times for MMORPGS of that kind are long over and the market and audiences changed completely. Us, the people who would play it, became the niche. CU will probably be the closest coming towards a "near DAoC" experience in the next decade. |
