Sure, I play for my fun in the first place. Never claimed to do it for other people. And the fairness of most "elite" players is just in their head. I joined close to all elite 8v8 groups in midgard and some in other realms for at least some runs... and the fairness in ts was like "oh this grp added us last christmas, lets add to teach them", "don't kill this solo!!111 he is a friend of my sisters stepdad", "kill this solo, he added on us a year ago... ops sorry, was the wrong one" etc. pure arbitrariness. And Heaven forbid there was an unknown name, "better kill him! he is not known in our 1337 circle, he will probably add". ![]() And close to all grps were happy to have an excuse for adding one evening with me in grp. Although I guess I said it 1000 times: I am no big fan of adding fights, nor am I against it. I just don't care, I do what the grp wants to do. ![]() And sorry if we added some of your 100% fair fights, slaughtering pugs with your setgrp. I have yet to see a single of the many "oh so fair" setgrps that say "we don't engage pugs at all, it would not be fair". ![]() And yeyeye I know, there never was or will be any setgrps here. ![]() |

This is probably the first time this is ever said but, everyone could just play the way they want to play.
Just this genious idea that came to me! As long as rules aren't enforced by staff or other instances of authority (and i hope that won't ever happen), this is probably a good thought to follow. How much fun would it be if every solo only fought other solo's, if every duo only fought other duo's, every set group fought other set groups. All the element of surprise would fade and thats a big part of the pvp/rvr in daoc. imo. Midgard Panini 3L5 RM, Species 5L0 SVG | Jaecar 2L2 Hunter | Sploon 40 Sb

This is already the case, hence nobody spelt it out. If you browse around, you'll find staff posts pertaining to this. However, the discussion revolves around the ought. In RL, I'm sure you can think of various reprehensible things which are nonetheless legal. Societal pressure modifies behaviour. For me, red is dead. Simple, although I will defer to the will of the group's majority. I think the entire "elitist culture" will have way less influence after launch. With the high population expected, they will simply be outnumbered. Any artificial advantages (old items etc.) are gone. However, there is also no excuse now to whine about the evil set groups. It's an even playing field. |

Good suggestion, but it doesn't work this simple. Because the way different people want to play is often inconsistent with one another. For example: Some 8vs8 groups only want clean fair 8vs8, without any add and nothing else. No 9vs8, no 8vs7 only 8vs8. Other players want to kill enemies, no matter how (so called red is dead attitude). The "other players" add a 8vs8 (as this is how they want to play), the 8vs8 groups get upset (as this is not how they want to play) and make their own rules. Next fight they stop to fight each other, kill the adders and run off to start the fair fight again somewhere else. This upsets the other players, and so on... Soon everyone is posting on some forum, call the others "elitists" or "adders" (everyone sees his opinion as the only correct of course, and never listen to the others), and voila here we are. Posting the same never boring stuff over and over again since DAoC was released ![]() Last edited by holsten-knight on Nov 09, 2015 17:40, edited 3 times in total.

#AdaptOrDie, works everytime, everywhere, and for everyone!
Ps. To all soloer's wannabe, doing a "1v1" with a RR10 vs a RR3 is not really so "fair", just saying ![]() There was a time when Uthgard 1.0 existed and maaaany toons and arrpees arose... but now:

Well, I disagree, disturbing these ways of playing by some made-up rules should not upset anyone with .... was going to say half a brain, but maybe common sense is better... so, should not upset anyone with a bit of common sense. To a degree DAoC (and most real MMO's) are a sandbox, there are some rules set in code, some rules to deter players from actively griefing in PvE and some rules against horrible names. There are no rules how to conduct RvR, if anything it would be 'red is dead'. Everything else is just made up nonsense by certain types of players, all those 8vs8, 1vs1, killing these but not those etc rules are just in some players heads, trying to circumvent the harsh truth of RvR: it is not meant to be fair! So if you enter the frontier areas in any way you are at war, be it solo, lowbie for levelling, setgrp, pug, zerg, doesn't matter, the enemy is not bound by your made-up rules and allowed to kill you in any way she likes. cheers |

And while all that is true, I am almost 100% sure that unless people start respecting different playstyles and try to accomodate them, nothing will change. Your enemies are real people and unless you try to respect them, there will always be issues. The simplest thing to do would be to accept different approaches to RvR and let everyone have their fun, without trying to be a dick about it and actively ruining the other persons fun. And perhaps that starts by saying "ok, tonight Emain is "claimed" by the setgroups, lets raid keeps in Midgard and get some zerg action going over there".

sure... main rvr zone is for setgroups and duel morons on amg... OFC we will respect that in future

AMG was merely an example. Of course you can keep trying to get a rise out of someone for chuckles - but imho that simply means that you cannot or will not understand that you actions affect others in a real way, even in a game. Without mutual respect and giving everyone the space to play a certain way, there will not be a healthy RvR population on the new server. There are plenty others that would enjoy just random zerging - is it really too difficult to leave those in peace that would like to enjoy the game in some other way? ![]() |
