3 months of summer and a Grab Bag

Dear Puppeteers,
I talk from user-gamer-follower-hopefull everkid, but I talk also as manager. There is now a LONG story of successfull projects run in Agile, why I'm saying that? Because you could, following basic rules managin your DEVelopment work and COMMunicate to the community AT THE SAME TIME ! Writing User Stories and publishing them will have a great result ! I assume you know what I'm talking about, if you don't: https://www.mountaingoatsoftware.com/agile/user-stories Open you eyes ! Look around ! Camelot Unchained is doing a great job using this method -> especially when comes down to communicating with the crowd waiting for news i.e. http://camelotunchained.com/v2/user-stories/ Blue, Abydos, whoeverelse is the puppeteer of this circus. These are my 2cents make a good use of it. Any question, don't hesitate to contact me. Cheers, Enjoy Life Miiyomo.

Miiyomo, that works great if you know you will have developers available for 35-50 hours / week. But when you don't know whether you will have developers available half an hour or 20 hours, it makes such an approach to player communication quite hard (if not impossible). It wont really solve the issues we have producing news for everyone.
Got any questions? Submit them to me and I will try to get them answered in our grab bag !

Allow me to say you are wrong on multiple lines - 1) Working 50ish hours / week is slavery, where the hell you live... I guess germany ^_^ 2) You don't have to necessarely commit to a big amount of tasks or set expectation for the following week. One of the principle of AGILE is ridicolously in line with your behaviour in the last 2 years i.e. "Is Done when is Done" 3) Communication-wise you will give the community the chance to see on what exactly you are working on ( not by when this will be done ) and what's the next step. 4) You are answering FAQ this is not exposing any progression. Give it a thought, you don't have to say yes but I won't pushback so easly, I'm happy to collaborate sharing some visual and easy tools that I use everyday in my work ![]() Enjoy Life Miiyomo.

These guys are just hardcore developers. I too as a developer don't give a shtye about marketing or such.
The problem is they have no community manager, or someone to take this role and be the front to the project. My wish is that Uthgard would ramp up on such, and become more structured in their ways. (Yes voluntary projects work like this, look at Arma3 roleplaying mods for example). Keeping a close lid on the project is good in many ways for the development, but there is no doubt about the negatives with this approach. |

Alright, after reading that I think I am out. I was never terribly good at DAoC nor did I run with elite people. I just played as a casual and still managed to get some enjoyment out of it. On live servers I played with RL friends and a guild that befriended us as we were just learning the game for ourselves. On Uthgard everyone has there little faction of friends and won't let anyone in anyway. Even the supposed newb friendly guilds would recruit people but in those guilds they would have factions of friends that wouldn't talk to the newby's. The cycle of the ****** I dealt with on Uth 1.0 plus the added extreme wait time of Uth 2.0 has finally forced me into the wall of realization. This game is dead to me..
Take care DAoC community, especially you elitists. This is your game after all, I hope you are able to play once again. As for me? Themeparks bore the ****** out of me anyway.. time to find a sandbox. |

Nope. Thats not true. Maybe for albion, but in mid you have more or less regular 16 slot or zerg "events" to get in touch with people that run on a regular base. And hib always had a broad set of pug pools that also take unknown people with the same option to stick with people that are more rvr active. But yes, you probably won't get into the fotm squad of your choice just because you are so charming. It has been described in the board plenty of times: Be active, stay around, and start building your own action. Everything else will follow. |

We have seen many farewells in these forums and we have seen almost equally many, more or less quiet, returns to the fold. I must say that I have rarely played a game where players who are more experienced and have invested more time into it did not get an advantage. Anything else would be unfair, and we could just as well roll dice - pretty boring. Skill is the deciding factor, as it should be, in an equal matchup. Yet if the casual acknowledges this disparity, he can actively seek to overcome it. DAoC offers numerous possibilities of doing so, zerging and outnumbering the enemy being the most obvious. To merely whine about good players, however, is absurd and defeatist, an attitude which neither helps you in the real world nor here. It is not a problem-solving but a victim mentality. It is up to us what kind of server we want in the future. Once more, Uthgard 2.0 can still take very different directions in this matter and we can actively choose to promote the one we prefer. DAoC is a game of genius; I think most can agree on that, at least. Let's make it work. |

Well, it has been debated over and over before. If staff would have the intention to keep their community involved in the overall progress it would be possible to release a new/grab back call it whatever post from time to time without duration of 3 months.
This is not a complain, it ´s just a simple fact, I also don ´t get why some player questions can ´t be solved in a news thread as like in a grab back as well, but nevermind. For example,- question: "will there be player mounts? News: Horses were no content in 1.65 and have been removed..."= solved. It took me 10 seconds to write this sentence, so what ´s the problem? I ´m pretty sure there is a shortcut diary in the internal forums which decissions/fixes/progress have been made. It ´s not a big point to tell the community a few of these things done, I guess. Even if it ´s only about the final water beetle population in Ardee communitx wuld be thankful , cuz most of the ppl here are just starving and being just happy by any statement made by staff. You can ´t honestly tell me it ´s picking too much time to write a news thread , sorry, but that ´s just a poor excuse. As said before, it would also be possible to recruit a community manager if the current staff don ´t like to write something about detailed progress, there ´re a lot of ppl who would like to do. Personally I don´t care anymore if there´re news or not. I´ll play anyway when Uth 2.0 is out and I´m patient enough to wait for. I ´m just upset some ppl of the community might leave or better said will not start again due of the lack of conversation and info politics sided by staff. That issue is nor needed or necessary but from the last impressions I got, there will be a news thread coming soon and staff is making good progress, so hopefully we ´ll get some good news soon too keep the majority of the players excited. Nevermind. |

First I read "blah blah blah" then I look at the calendar, two years, two freaking years, man.

Players can greatly contribute to a server if you let them. Uthgard, still the best server. Thanks, Devs. |

Does the amount of players ( online ) account for how many GM's are coding at that particular moment? Or is that just testers of some fashion?
Do the gms need to be online to code? link

#1. No #3. No #2. Watch for news. |

Your are right, Agile is for muppets, just a vehicle for scrum masters to make money out of keeping people from working. Managers love it because they get spoonfed with happy crappy statistics cheers |
