Hi guys it has finally hit that point. I have opened the Uthgard webpage one thousand times since the server closed.

So, is there any way we can start some sort of protest demonstration? What if some of us got together with a 24/7 webcam and starved ourselves? Direct feed to the Uthgard devs. Make our goal clear: we don't need a perfect server, we just need something to play... and to eat.

Could someone also summarize for me what exactly were the problems with Uthgard before it closed? I mean they scrapped the Tajendi bs right? Did anyone really enjoy SI PvE - who cares?

Guys I have been told that there will be very important news soon, don't ask me how, but it will be between 10/19/2015 to 10/19/2016.

There are multiple reasons for revamp, and I don't claim to know all of them. The server had been running for many years, during which patch limits had been changed, items introduced and removed, exploits uncovered and fixed, custom stuff (Tajendi) made. As a result, older players had been not only able to accumulate RR but also powerful items which didn't even drop anymore and gold (due to exploits and droprates it was easier to farm gold back in the day). Due to this "inflation", Item prices were astronomical. Newer players had a very rough time integrating.

Then the rival server Genesis was launched. It seemed to offer everything Uthgard had promised but not delivered: Old RAs and an equal playing field. Literally thousands flocked to the new server, and Uthgard's population plummeted even more. Drastic measures were being called for (at the time, nobody knew what a disaster Genesis would turn out to be). The only solution to solve the internal problems, attract new players and deal with the competition was a total reset.

As I understand it, Uthgard 1.0 code basis had grown to a point too complicated/entangled/custom to maintain and improve.
As a result, promised changes like weaponskill/blockrate/... implementations, "new" old RA feature implementations, bugfixes etc. would require to rape the code even more, or completely redo integral code parts to implement things cleanly. Apparently, Uthgard 1.0 code also had connection/performance issues.

The item inhomogeneity was just adding on top of that. I think there was not even a simple way to track these custom items, like items with "unnaturally high" quality, delay, stats and such 8)

And rumor has it cliff beetles need an urgent revamp :D

Edit: Yay, comment #500. Let the grab bags rain down on us...
“DAOC is not about what you can log. It's about what you can play :> ”

Uthgard 1.0: <Die Lettanten> Ivia - 8L8 Nightshade - Lone Enforcer since 8L1.
Uthgard 2.0: <Illuminated Stormriders> Oxy - Hero; Ivia - Nightshade.

So, let's look at this "list".

Step 1-- Code a lockout to Tajendi so you cannot enter it. Max time to implement change: 1 day of programming.

Step 2 -- Reset server and erase characters to eliminate benefit of original characters. Max time to implement change: 1 day.

Step 3 -- Introduce Old RAs and SI classes. Apparent max time: 2 years and running.

Personally I think the Old RAs are crap and you just don't remember how unbalanced it was. Over a long period of time you only remember the good parts and forget just how bad/unbalanced those old RAs were. Had step 3 only involved completing the old SI classes, we might be done, after the cliff beetle spawn rates and pathing has been fixed of course.

I never claimed Old RAs are better, but you cannot deny that many people are still attracted by them. That is what Genesis was all about. Whether that was worth such a long downtime is naturally a different story.

I bow to your superior insight into the programming efforts of the Uthgard team, all hail Moondragon!
When do you open your without doubt flawless DAoC freeshard?

cheers

The only reason I care about Uthgard or Genesis is because they removed Trials of Atlantis. ToA ruined DAoC by adding in super OP gear that you had to get or else you weren't even considered for groups. I don't even need Shrouded Isles personally, I think SI added some good stuff to the game but if it's going to take extra time to implement SI, just release Super Classic DAoC and work on the SI stuff later. I need my DAoC so bad, there is only so many times i can listen to the DAoC soundtrack on Youtube before my nostalgia drip runs dry.

****** everything, let's just open the beta and see what we got. If the crowd is happy with it just go with what you got and implement the planned stuff later. LET'S GET IT ON!

I'm afraid the server might be more broken then we expect or else they wouldn't have just invited less then 10 people and with secrecy nonetheless. The server is probably riddled with bugs and they don't want to scare people who have never played Uthgard before with an open test. I actually feel rather down that I wont be testing stuff, boy do I miss uthgard.

I saw 3 people on uthgard this morning.

That must be all the people who wanted this patch level and changes from good days with kegs and higher patch level.

Finally they can now duel at AMG in peace.

Players can greatly contribute to a server if you let them.

Uthgard, still the best server. Thanks, Devs.

The unfortunate reality for me is that I think we have crossed a point where Camelot Unchained is realistically close enough to release that I wont have time to play Uthgard. I would wager 13 months max before Cameot Unchained is released. Currently they have a target date of June 2016 last I heard. Assuming (which this never happens but...) they actually come in on time and release in June 2016, there will be no interest with this game. The unfortunate reality for all of us which would equally suck, is if Camelot Unchained sucks and we all flock back to Uthgard.

If I were the developers, I would simply roll the dice at this point and continue to make a better launch and hope Camelot Unchained fails and the player base comes back then.
