Have never played an Alb tank. Really leaning towards one for new start. As a first main character on a brand new server what would you start?

Reaver, Arms, Pally, Merc

Have played Minstrel and probably my favorite class, would like to start something a bit more PVE group freindly to begin though.

Would enjoy hearing some feedback from experienced Alb players. :P

All of those are PvE group friendly but if you ever plan on doing RvR I'd go with either Merc or Armsman.

The group that runs up against them can't kill them fast enough because smite clerics have sooooooo many tools at their disposal combined with decent ranged damage with 8 of them dudes doing it!

Aust,

You would take Arms in PVP over Reaver?

Arms has access to Determination while Reaver doesn't. Armsman also gets Soldier's Barricade, Trip, and Prevent Flight.

Austerim is correct.

But I suspect Paladins will still get the nod over Arms as a tank due to End chant.

Should actually be very interesting when Uth opens up and people start RVRing.

Well, an Arms/Pala combo is always nice, add a Merc or Reaver and you have a nice train.

As with every group setup: some may work better against enemy groups and some less. There is simply no perfect setup.

Pugs will still use paladins, but any grp that wants to win fights (except zerging) will play without due to the lack of determination.

After the det nerf on uth, most alb grps already ran without pala, but its quite expensive and difficult to have endu3 / endu4 pots available all the time.

I suspect until people reach RR5, Pala's will get the nod. After that, I think we'll see RA's being respecced and a lot more Armsman being taken.

Whatever happened to playing what you want and ya know... having fun? I remember running pallies in our 8 man and raping people... its how well you work together, not your grp makeup. (to an extent)

100% my opinion, better have a good nondettank than a crappy dettank

A lot for me will depend on the implementation of the block/guard mechnic on Uthgard 2.0 On Uthgard 1.0 blocking was very viable (possibly better than live?) whilst on Genesis server blocking was pointless, you might stop 1 in 20 attacks from a savage if lucky (who arent even supposed to be counted as dualwield which halves block)

If guard works well i would play an armsman (they have MoB) but if not may as well play a merc switch/slambot/ Although the thought of manually switching out wpns with shield constantly does not fill me with excitement!

What do people think? i am assuming most alb groups will be caster based and therefore the one slot in group is for def tank, which would you take armsman or merc? The anytime snare on pole is very nice, but they are slow compared to snare from thrust merc

savage is supposed be considered as dual wield.
Block/guard on old Uth was good, working very well. Oposite case is Genesis, blockrate sux. My warri with 50+14 in shield and 41+14 in parry parries way often than block. He block very low.
Polearms can be easily disabled in rvr by attack speed debuff+red pbt
