What matters is that it was done and is clearly still being done. My point which apparently went far over your head is that why should they continue to spend any time or any money in a project that they know isn't coming back? If the project is dead they should A close all aspects of the server including the forums as that is costing them money, maybe not a lot of money but why waste any if you don't have to. B If they are not going to bring back the server you would think they would tell us.... they have said they will or do you think the devs are that cruel?

Your entire argument is based on a first principle, which is that money is a determining factor in whether or not the server continues to be online and that this is consequently an indicator of the health of the project as whole. I merely tried to make you understand that this is a fallacy, since: - they may well have rented the server under a 6 or 12month contract - they may not consider the cost of running the server an issue right now (remaining reserves in the koffers being one explanation) - the server currently shown in the portal does not have to be a production-level game server and could just as well be placed in Blues basement (IPs can be changed - although I honestly have not checked this) - the server could be used for things other then running uthgard as well, which makes it worthwhile to them keeping it around And then there is a fifth option, and that is the project is dead by whatever metric you wish to apply, but they are not willing to call it yet. And by dead I mean "not going to reach the goal of revamping and reopening the server in a timeframe considered reasonable by even the most hardcore fanboi" - I think 19 months is starting to stretch it a bit there.

We have migrated the server to bigger and faster hardware to modernize our hardware and reduce overall cost. In addition to gameserver, we have support materials as well such as forum/web server and code repositories. There is not some secret scheme to rake in donations, as (even before the shutdown) they come in very limited supply. If we need donations to continue if it becomes a burden Blue is unwilling to bear we will let you know. (But don't let that stop you from helping now)

So I'm going to try to not take a side lol that said, I guess I could donate some, but over the past few days I have been trying to read through as much of this forum as I can to get a grasp on what is going on. And there are some extremely mixed feelings. I could afford to donate a small amount each month to keep this dream alive. But part of me feels like this may almost be a scam. So it's hard for me to donate after reading the past 2 "Grabbags" I know Skarz said "Uthgard WILL be back, lets just hope sooner rather than later." I admire your faith. If anything I'l put faith in your faith lol. I also spent some time exploring other server's as portal is back up now. And I've started on Genesis. And looked into Lethantis. To me it seems Lethantis has an even longer road to travel than Uthgard. But I don't see anything wrong with Genesis, unless I'm missing something I may just play there til my Daoc phase is over. It tends to come and go, New games launching ect. But of course I do wish for the relaunch of Uthgard. On a side note Wildstar is going free to play.

From the way it sounds, they are not looking for help on the development side. I’m sure it’s in part because there’s one developer (Blue?) and he would consider it his “baby” which is something I can respect. I’m not a fan of less experienced developers working with projects I take a lot of pride in as well, so completely understandable. I will look to other freeshards Halysia suggested to offer development end assistance. Thanks again everyone.

To contrast that, the person on Genesis who took my name and was impersonating me was PERMA-banned from the server, no warning, essentially just for mentioning Uthgard's existence. Turns out maybe hijacking my screen-name wasn't a good idea after all.

But when flame wars break out it gets drowned out in senseless posts. The update is: Uthgard will come. There is no set date. We will update you when we have a date.
