im curious shurick, how many times would u answer the same question before u stopped answering ?

p.s most of us are here for austerim's gif's !

I dont see anyone answering any questions. Everyone just as clueless about the revamp progress as we were six, eight or twelve month ago. I guess I will keep asking until I find something better to waste my time on.

Austerim posting gifs and people like me asking same crap over and over again is the only two thing that keep this forum somewhat "active" since there is nothing else to talk about.

I can see a contrast may be needed again. Daoc forums have always been rather poisonous.

Thank you devs for all of your work. Take your time.

As if they needed encouragement to "take their time". I think they have that one covered man, lets just hope that some of us can still operate a mouse and keyboard when this thing is finally finished sometime in the next few decades. :wall:

Hello all,

I actually quit Daoc back when Uthgard went down. And I was cleaning out the attic the other day and found my old Daoc Cd's in the box, Still had the dusty old folded up world maps in them haha, Anyways it sparked an urge to play! I remembered this server and thought it had been long enough and I was ready to give Daoc the good-ol college try again. But to my disbelief I have found that Daoc Portal is gone, and Uthgard is somehow still not up? it has to have been almost a year by now I would think. So I did something I have never done before, I MADE A FORUM ACCOUNT to hopefully find out what is going on with daoc thees days, is it over ?lol
Now that portal is gone is there another platform that free servers use, or did they all go away too?

If i get an answer thank you in advance. Probably wont check this for a few days.

in a nutshell,

DAOC portal is having problems and should be back soon.
Alot of features and changes have been successfully implemented.
Uthgard has been down for almost 2 years now and since its summer there has been next to no progress / updates lately.

Uthgard WILL be back, lets just hope sooner rather than later.

Players can greatly contribute to a server if you let them.

Uthgard, still the best server. Thanks, Devs.

I have given this a lot of thought and decided instead of hopelessly checking these forums to see no results, take action. From what I can tell, the devs appear to be burnt out, I don’t blame them. They have jobs, family, etc. Working on a project like this clearly takes time and effort and hobby projects tend to take a lower priority as they should. I have been a software developer for 6 years but primarily worked with business applications so I won’t pretend I know 100% how the freeshard server code works. I have reviewed the DOL code and it’s seriously an amazing engineering feat considering it is done in C#, I see a few things I would have done differently though. I was able to get a local server up and running but only modified NPC names, quest text, and other minor things so I’m by no means an expert. However, I do have programming experience and everything I know is transferable to what is being done here. I quit playing daoc around 2005 but I do have a good memory of what it was like back in that time frame. I played the newer daoc with the new frontiers off and on but just wasn’t the same. I decided over a year ago I was going to give this freeshard a try as I heard it replicates what daoc was like back in that time-frame. Come to find out, it was taken down about a month before I came here. So here I have sat, waiting, and a year and a half later, nothing.
So, instead of sitting around, here’s my plan: Attempt to re-create what Uthgard did as there doesn’t appear to be a definite “yes” that it’s returning. I fully understand this is no simple task, it took these devs years to fine-tune this server and from what I have heard, these guys did the best. I anticipate this kind of project would take just as long to perfect but wouldn’t we all be happy, if in 10+ years, there’s still a genuine classic server to play on? This is obviously something I cannot take on myself, I don’t have the resources or the man-power to make it happen alone. Also, I don’t know Uthgard’s mechanics. I am not looking for developers, but, if you do have programming experience and are interested in taking this on with me, please let me know. I am looking for people who would be interested in player support, worldbuild, management, quest scripting, and people who know how to maintain servers and most importantly, someone who could/would volunteer to host this. I am imagine this post coming under a lot of fire and some very predictable responses saying how dumb of an idea it is and how it could never replace uthgard. That is by no means the goal, I want Uthgard to come back up, I want this effort to be in vane, but quite honestly, I’m tired of sitting back and not taking any action. I think as a community member, this is taking pro-active steps to getting an Uthgard experience in the event it never returns. Correct me if I’m wrong but Uthgard is an attempt to restore classic DAOC from a 2003-ish era? This project I am proposing is an attempt to restore the Uthgard experience. I know it sounds near impossible, but isn’t better than coming back to this website and checking the status when you already know the answer? This will most likely be lost once the new grab-bag comes out as I have no intentions of advertising this again. Message me through this site and I will give you my email address and we can discuss things further. Baby steps, but better than no steps at all.

I like your pro-active approach, but you're probably biting off far more than you can chew. Instead I'd recommend trying to become part of an existing team - there's already a few 'classic' servers popping up - we don't really need more. What we need is for people such as yourself - motivated with the know how, to get together and really work on just one server, and polish it, whether that's Uthgard, Genesis, Lethantis or Vivien or some other I don't know of.

Staff: Please consider how MrPickles may be of help.

It ´s quite amazing to see how many former daoc players want to help/aid this server or try to start over with some new daoc project on their own.
There was another guy here,- I think it was lovemebaby who was once interested to form something new with money, Razzer also offered some help and some other guys too.
I would like to see if you contact staff directly and ask them if you can help to get this server done... I know, Blue once said he doesn ´t want new staff members, but my vision is they would be open minded for some good help by this great community.

It happened like it did last year, we broke into the summer hole and the whole progress has stopped again. How I know that fact? Trishin said he will publish a new grab back soon but he needs some confirmations by other staff members first. Now days gone by and staff went silent again, so there is probably a summer break.
This is not a blame, I totally understand the motivation to work on a free project is low at summer time and there are better things to do then coding.

But this whole progress is taking way too much time, I would like to see some reinforcement at staff,- it may take some time to get the work running with new members but at least it may save pretty much time for sure.
If you don ´t kow where to let them work- let them make Shrouded isles world build for example, if things go bad there it ´s not such a big pitty, cause it ´s just optional pve content.

At least I would like to know, why the beta hasn´t started yet, a beta is for testing things and so on, it must not be a perfect preview setup of the end- published server now, but ppl would have something to do instead checking this forum for news again and again to remain frustrated and hopeless.

first of all i will say this.... any and all ingame commands can be done by almost anyone, i've done almost all aspects of ingame management on other freeshards before now with ease, what i couldnt get my head round was the language of the code ( out of game stuff ) its exactly this that cause's the slow pace of uthgards relaunch since Blue is the main person who fully understands this side of things.

second of all, anyone attempting to create a classic daoc server will need to use the exsisting DOL platform which tends to be kept as livelike as possible which also means u will need to backtrack many years of changes and expansions. when uthgard first started using the dol platform it was much closer to classic with alot less work needed compared to anyone trying to do the same thing now.

i admire ur ambition but it may be a waste of time in the grand scheme of things, in order to reach uthgards level of perfection u will need a combo of expertise and time........ ALOT of time. someone mentioned join the existing team and i think that would be ur best bet. alot of the player base have given time into uthgards relaunch but theres only so much we can do. but ppl like urself who have an understanding of code work would be of great use to Blue and co imo.

goodluck in whatever u decide to do :)

Uthgard refuses any help, numerous people have offered throughout the years.

As I said months ago, and is looking ever more true, no blue, no uthgard. They are burnt out, but they want to bring it back someday. Wish they would just be honest really.
