It just runs counter to what they've said they are trying to do. They're going for the closest they can get to a live-like experience at this patch level.

I get that it's the goal to be live like at that patch level. I really do, but this current idea is only destined to frustrate players in the long run. I get there are some that want it exactly the way it used to be, but there is no reason for the xp grind to take the amount of time that it does, and for there to be such a night and day difference between buff and non buffed players I rvr and even pve. Rvr is the endgame. It's a HUGE inconvenience for people to run pots in small man and solo in rvr. That and unless your running a full buff specced class in group you are not even competitive to most groups around that do. A buff NPC removes a TON of issues for casuals, and doesn't take anything away from anyone. It's not spoon feeding people either, it's just encouraging them to get to the endgame faster. There really isn't a drawback to a buff npc. There really is only upside to it.

With old uthgard I got 3 different friends to play, and only one made it to 50 and the other 2 said the road to 50 was terrible. If you want a decent casual population you need to remove the frustrating parts that are there for no real reason.

I'm not for sure how much or what you played, but getting to 50 was actually really easy on Uthgard 1.0. I played a solo toon and got to 50 pretty much solo the whole time in a matter of a few weeks. When you compare that to the time it takes to farm a decent template and get a decent RR that is nothing in this game. Once I had made my first toon, got him templated, and started to play with some others on a more frequent basis my next several alts took no time to level up.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if leveling to 50 is what is preventing people to stay here, than how are they going to feel when it takes twice as long to gear up and 100X as long to get to 8L+. Getting to 50 IS the EASY part. It may be boring, but its certainly not hard to do.

You will not see buffbots and the likes here. However, the GM's have said that the xp in groups would be more live like and hence power leveling will be more of an option. That should make leveling a bit faster and easier.

Um buff bots are live like and yes if you play hours and hours per day it wouldn't take you long to get to 50, also if you play a solo class like a Theurg then yes it would be quick also. Don't be so high and mighty and look down on those that want to ENJOY the game they way it was when they were on live which included being able to level several toons at once. Not allowing bots at least for solo leveling which hurts NO ONE is going to discourage causal people from returning/playing on the server, that is just fact it will also discourage people from playing the classes that are hard to solo unless you have a group. Causal players don't always want to waste their time looking for groups and honestly shouldn't have to, your last point about xp being even faster in groups more than makes my point for me and will drive solo/casual players away even more because it will be even harder to compete with groupers more then it was before. I don't see how limiting a player to 1 active toon and 1 bot while in PVE ONLY zones hurts anyone, or what about a person that has a toon that is crafting while another toon is leveling? Who does that hurt if everyone can do it. My problem is that people claim they want live like as possible and then shut down one of the most live like aspects of the game by not allowing at least a compromise on bots. RonELuvv, you and people like you who want only people on the server that agree with them or want to do things the way you want... well have fun playing on an empty server because casuals don't like restrictions on how they can play.

I think what some people don't fully realize is that leveling without botting, doing quests and etc. may have been slightly fun when DAoC just came out and we had actual new people on live and a high population to build groups. This is a low pop free shard. That means that 99.99% of people who play here have already leveled a toon or ten to 50 and likely don't find extensive PvE very fun, especially as a support class with no group.
Buffbots in RvR are not cool, but I see absolutely no reason to not be able to bot and dual log in PvE. Maybe at some ancient point in the past it was seen as an unfair advantage, but it's 2015 now and most of us have computers capable of running at least 2 accounts in PvE. And guess what? If you don't like it - don't bot, it's that simple. You can still get groups regardless of whether you have a buffbot or not.
You know what else is not cool? A certain other shard where the rules are ridiculously strict and GMs are ban happy for the stupidest reasons. Because, you know, a pop of 200-300 people is just too high and it could use being cut in half. I hope that is not the future of Uthgard, whenever it opens again.

wow thats so silly...
i guess i could count many reaons why bbs are a bad idea, or what a great impact this would have on many parts of the game and the major part, in my opinion, is the social part.
why the hell should i search or build a group when i always have my bb?
seen behaviors like this on so many servers already and it always ends up the same.

people are used to think that other players are always worse than they are, and they never would group with bad players.
(this problem we all know and its even the main problem on uth - or better was)

ok now i want to interprete things like you did (prev post)

- you say bbs are livelike, what they are honestly.
- i say ONLY capitalism and greed publishers made bbs possible.
so why should we repeat a mistake from which we all know it were never intended, but tolerated through income?
from the rpg part i´d say we play a charackter, means 1, you play 1 person, and even if you are shizophren you can still choose a petclass.

ps

really i think if you NEED a BB then YOU should think about what YOU are doing wrong.

Buffbots were indeed live like. I'm not even saying we need them either. Just an NPC that gives buffs would suffice. I wouldn't even think about a bot in those cases. Also you are instantly more desirable in a group if you come with your own buffs. On live during these patches more than half of the people had a bot too. Many of them had 2. An NPC that gives buffs hurts NOBODY. Without the rules being a bit less strenuous on people you will see the casuals drop by the wayside. Also I had a nearly perfect template with about a days worth of farming and crafting/salvaging. On an sb no less also, and we all know how crazy those can be at times.

I'm just looking to get more people interested, but with the old strict system i won't be asking anyone to play because I know they will not want to sit and xp grind. Yes you can get groups, but when you know so little about the game it's unlikely. I'll still play though because I'm an addict. I'm open to all points of view also, I just struggle to see how a buff NPC hurts anyone. I know it will never happen though.

Really? Did I ever once say I NEEDED one? No I did not, I know how to play the game, that is not the issue. The issue is time management and again I give a flying F what you think of my play style. Also forcing people to group is a bad idea, A because it won't happen, those people will just log and play something else. B People generally are resistant to being forced to do something or be punished if they don't, which is exactly what increasing group xp will do. It will more punish those people who do not want to group, can't find a group or are playing a class that no one wants to group with. So you will either have a majority of people playing solo classes and won't group anyways just to stick to people like you who think its a great idea to force people to group or you will have everyone playing tanks and healers/buffers so they can get groups. Both are bad, you need balance and people like you who disrespect those of us who see the need for balance are only going to hurt the server. I would rather have a good population of people free to play the game how they want as long as it is outside of RVR and battlegrounds. Those people that want to dictate how people play can kiss my ass. Excluding the Devs of course, their word is law and while I do think it is too restrictive to ban buff bots in PVE zones I will deal with it if that is their decision.

Staff already said buffbots/dual login will never come, and dual loggers will be punished, so no need to discuss this topic again and again.

If you see the path of the devs and the goal of this 1.65 classic server with the hard setup to create an ol ´ suffering feeling while leveling etc. you can give yourself the answer why they won ´t never accept buffbots & dual login.

All this talk...all this nonsense...all I need is for Blue to come to a point where he is 'OK' with the revamp and relaunch product, and everything else will fade away. I could give two ****** about BB's, RP's against greys, dmg mechanics in RVR, pets that follow you after stealth, etc etc....all I want is Uth to be back up and I will love and support every single moment of it, for however long we get to experience it one last time.

Slow EXP keeps server hoppers out of RvR. It's the most important part of the game :D

Also, it keeps sluggish people (so-called PvEers, or twinkers ;) ) busy in the game. It has a purpose :D
“DAOC is not about what you can log. It's about what you can play :> ”

Uthgard 1.0: <Die Lettanten> Ivia - 8L8 Nightshade - Lone Enforcer since 8L1.
Uthgard 2.0: <Illuminated Stormriders> Oxy - Hero; Ivia - Nightshade.

Yeah I get that it's never going to happen. It's also one of the things that will put a strangle hold on population when it's not addressed 3 months after launch. I'll still play, but I'm not considered a casual. Couple r11s on live, a r9,8 on another shard, and had a pair of r8s here prior to shutdown. I just think that there are things that could actually help the server along is all.
