i dont want to hear your negative gibberish.

thanks.

Well too bad. At least the Devs here have the decency to allow free discussion on these forums. Which isn't the only good thing about them. But my negative gibberish, as you put it, is something that if it were listened to would improve the server.

If everyone is agreeing then nobody is thinking.

Most of the real obvious problems crop up when there is only one type of voice allowed to speak. I'm sure Kevin Costner had a lot of fan bois help him make Waterworld but nobody there said-- hey, how come there has been no earth for thousands of years but all the bad guys of this movie are called smokers, and even though they can't find dirt they can find cigarettes? And hey, let's spend 175 million dollars on this turd of a movie!!

Players can greatly contribute to a server if you let them.

Uthgard, still the best server. Thanks, Devs.

You know what else would have been "working as intended" in 1.65?

I dont know about fan bois but Costner definately had help. My theory is he sold his soul to the devil in exchange for waterworld and his success in hollywood. How else can you explain his win for best director and best picture for Dances with Wolves over Goodfellas...

[quote="Roenik"]Alright, I have been a loyal Uthgardian for 5+ years, which is a lot less than many of the other regular people you see here on these forums. I don't post much on the forums, however when I have something to say, I say it. I have never went to genesis or whatever the fk the other server is called, as I am an aged gentleman, and I have the patience to wait for those things that are worth waiting for. Having said that, I feel that you guys are constantly dodging the only real question that is on peoples minds right now...

I have been a software developer for 6 years and I can say first hand the hardest and most frustrating question to answer is: "When will this be completed?" You want to give the answer everyone wants to hear, but in reality, sooner == more bugs. It can't be avoided, you fix one thing, you break 30+ others. In all honesty, if I was the developer for a project like this being strictly volunteer, I would just take it away. I would hate to see this server go under but I wouldn't blame the developers for scrapping it from users complaining. When my users complain about something, like a feature taking a while to be implemented, I would love nothing more than to just delete it off the server and watch them scramble to do their day to day jobs without it, but they pay my check, this is all volunteer. Have some patience and stop asking when, not getting paid means you don't have to give an answer OR even do it for that matter. Sorry for using the grab bag for a quick little rant, but maybe just take the time to appreciate the hard work they do for just donations and understand the longer It takes, the better the final product. If it never happens, oh well, life goes on, learn C#/Net, get the DOL source code and write your own, the people at DOL did some pretty amazing work that also deserves some appreciation as well.

Totally and completely right, I will go a step further and say its outrageous that so many keep asking and shows the maturity of many of the people on these forums to be non-existent. Have respect for those NON-paid devs that are doing a favor for ALL of us by working on the server. I have said once and I have said it again. Having an opinion about something is fine. Being a whiney ****** and endangering this server is not. Can all the whiney ****** please go somewhere else? Maybe go back to WoW? You know where the players have about the same maturity level as you do?

Sounds to me like a whiney developer on a power trip. We all have jobs, and we're all expected to provide updates on our progress and work to deadlines. Now perhaps there is a key difference; people are PAID for jobs whereas Uthgard is a volunteer project. Uthgard developers are working as volunteers so no, they don't have to provide updates. Just don't come on and whine about having to be accountable in your day job because everyone else has the same thing, and rightly so.

There are lots of reasons though while the devs are potentially causing problems by keeping the server down for so long:

1. The longer the server stays down, the less people there will be when the server repons.
2. Working without a deadline means that the work just keeps extending itself. There's always something extra to fix. I would think that the devs would prefer a deadline even for their own sanity.
3. The devs have put in the most work on this project for sure, but the community has put in so much to make this project what it is. They've put in time into the server, as well as some people putting in money. Not saying that means they should be able to whine constantly, but it does mean that they should expect so accountability from the devs.

Personally I think that the devs are now doing a good job with updates, and I understand that their situation isn't easy. I'm not saying anything against the devs, they're communicating pretty well in my opinion. But I also understand that the community is getting tired of waiting and may just go off to find something else. I'd hate to see Uthgard die out but that's what's being risked by the server being down close to 18 months now.

This is actually a good list to respond to so I will:

1. We are aware of this, however I think 99% will hear about us reopening in some way (through facebook, emails, or otherwise), and in most cases these people will come back even if only to see what we have done and then return to their new games/family/etc. The loss of players to other games, family, etc is something that is very hard to compete with, even if we were to come online tomorrow.

2. We are aware of this. We don't have a deadline simply because we tried that type of work in the past and it drove everyone insane / to quit the project. It is a volunteer job after all, so having to worry about deadlines etc tends to make people simply quit rather than get the job done. Now with that being said, we do have a set list of things we need to finish before we reopen the server. We don't want to make this list public though as we don't want to disappoint people if we decide to remove stuff from that list in order to open faster or because a solution didn't turn out as we wanted it to.

3. The community is why we are doing this. We love the passion from our players, however it is vital to our survival that the developers (/staff in general) is finding it fun and rewarding to work on this server. We take that of a higher priority than responding to player concerns on the forum, etc. (I hope you will forgive us, and understand) And of course we are accountable for our players and community, it is this accountability that makes us want to deliver a good product for you to enjoy. (and partly what makes it fun to be a staff member - at least for me.)
Got any questions? Submit them to me and I will try to get them answered in our grab bag !

I don't think there's any hard evidence to support this theory. When a release date gets announced, word will get around to everyone who's interested.

Thanks for a great reply. It's really good to see developers being active on the forums again, and the grab bags have been useful for that. Like I say I'm not trying to say that devs should be doing anything differently I'm just trying to see both sides of the argument too often people are very one sided on these forums.

About the ETA,- I think everybody can make their own conclusion that the release won´t happen in near future.
If there would be a soon release of the beta,- I ´m pretty sure staff would have said something about it.
So if the Beta is running the final release may be close and there would be room for think about a release date. At the moment it ´s not necessary until the Beta has started or a date for the release of it will be told.

So my personal guess is everytime I ´m checking this board and nothing is said about start of the Beta I´ ve to add at least minimum 3 months + , it ´s just guesswork but I think it ´s good enough, though.
Devs told us they will hold us up to date about the progress, so we always know there ´s no release in near future.

Staff has improved communication to their community very much, thanks for this. I also noticed less complains by players in the last months, I think we ´re on a good way.

Ohhhh, if I could only get my hands on that list to see what exactly is taking so long and whats so important to wait 18 month for. All I can tell you, its better be a one GOOD list or there will be a lot of disappointed people after all this waiting.

I assume there was some kind of list when this server went offline in Jan 2014, and original estimate according to dev posts at the time was several month. What happened to that list and how did it grow to a year and a half downtime is something I cant understand real well, sorry. Would be nice to hear that story one day, but I kinda gave hoping for it.
