May someone give me a brief an neutral summary of the buff pot / barrel discussion?
In regards to what de devs are planning for uth 2.0 and what are the pro and contra guys are listing as their arguments Thanks! |

Cons of barrels: 1)It is not livelike or patch level hence custom and in some peoples minds custom = bad ALWAYS 2)It leads to "buff inflation" or "arms race" where more buffs are used then would be because everyone has barrels 3)It requires new players to get barrels to be competitive which is just another barrier to RvR Pros of barrels: 1)It is a way for alchemists to make money since they are always in demand 2)It is more convenient. Less refilling hence = more time in emain with less breaks 3)Can carry more variety instead of having to pick and choose. Now barrels were removed right around the time I capped out of thid on my Inf. I have been told that all the "elite" "old school" "pro" solos quit in a rage when barrels were removed so my opinion is invalid but I found soloing in emain/DF easily doable but what I would do is pack my entire inventory and leave one space for the porter necklace. I managed to kill plenty of rr10/rr11 solos with no barrels.

How were the pots and buff items back at 1.65 patch level?
If they are going to say no to positive game changes in order to maintain a "pure" classic 1.65 server then however ****** was then it needs to be that way now. No housing. No jack ******. What else? Map command. Horses. Merchants. What else. Let's be pure. https://www.uthgard.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=37632
Players can greatly contribute to a server if you let them. Uthgard, still the best server. Thanks, Devs. |

Well real pure would be buffbots and no housing. Barrels would be livelike only if you count eu events . since only eu got them back then. I would love to go 100% livelike and have my bb. No need to craft would be awesome

Won't happen. Ever. Though it was fun on live, logging into the frontier and know who's active in RVR just by looking at which buffbots are logged in. On Lyonesse/Albion some buffbots never changed their positions for years. After a while you had fixed gathering points every evening for each group/guild. The Uthgard staff tries to force people into grouping, to have that intended experience of group play (which is, in reality, more awful than anything else). In the beginning of DAoC it was quite fun, later on, when leveling in a random group, you had like 15 minutes of actual leveling and roughly 45 minutes of someone AFK or not ready or whatever per hour. That killed the fun in the end. RVR was roughly the same, you often had to wait for quite some time until you could finally start moving, just to get wiped 5 minutes later by Zerg, which sometimes resulted in one or two people leaving. So the fixed formations of groups built up, where you had zero to no chance of participating or getting into. Which resulted in people leveling up chars that can solo in RVR, like all the stealth chars. Or they built up zergs and played the game as it was intended to. Which again was not wanted by some of the community. On Uthgard, back in 2006/2007 I tried to play in groups, it was awful. Then I decided to ignore group play and use my time leveling alone, spending time crafting and enjoying the game. Sometimes I joined a group only to realize ... oh my. Though I have to add, there had been some good groups aswell, even some real good discussions about anything and everything. But with hitting level 40 on my Paladin I decided: no more grouping until lvl 50. Took quite some time, yes, but it was more fun than running with groups. Albion Forever!

On live you would just log 8 accounts on 2 persons and PL the crap out of a new char. Thats how it has been for.. ever..
PVE with random noobs is just as nerve-wrecking and unbearable as RVR with random noobs.. uwu ~ orz

Why ppl always saying housing has to be removed.... http://camelotherald.wikia.com/wiki/Patch_Notes:_Version_1.63 . Thanks god, we will have houses and don ´t have to sleep under the bridges of our capitals ![]() |
|
Because they confuse this with another free-server that had the similar, yet slightly more stupid, idea of having a 1.62 patch target.

A) As Jerrian points out, housing existed in 1.65. B) Barrels existed in EU servers (as you stated) and this is a server in Germany so... Even if they went the way of American live there would still be draughts which were multi charge pots. Can't remember how many charges per pot though. C) The buffbot issue has been tackled many times here. The only reason Mythic/EA allowed it was because it was just more $$ in their pockets. That is not the case here. Instead it would just push the server limits with people running god know's how many bots and on top of that it would kill alot of the social element. When you have thousands on at any given time (like on live servers), buffbots don't make that big of a deal. When you have 200-500 on (population of a freeserver) and everyone can just log in bots to fill a group then you would have very little reason to group up. |

A) got that mixed up aswell
B) draughts came later if i remember correctly since us cried about the eu barrels and C) sure they did it because of the money, that doesnt change the fact though that they allready balanced the game around buffbots at that time. They actualy kinda handled it like free to play games handle today: you can still play without paying (double) with pots and charges. But hey.. Buy a second account and you have a much smoother life/be competetive with the rest who are willing to pay Also the : running around with 20x accounts could be easyly preventes by linking two accounts together or go full custom with a npc/buffbot barrel. Im not trying to argue about good/bad effects of this, but purly by 1.65 livelikeness and ballance since this IS the ellephant in the room. Rp off or level 20 etc are all small compared to this major customisation in gameplay, ballance and comunity impact. The hole charge/barrel discussion is only a branch of this customisation. Back in the day they only cared about barrels/draughts because the set groups didnt want to refill there mana/endu pots every 2 hours. Buffs rarely even came up in the discussion (like mid having the only str/con chare prior to si) since 99% ran buffbots or knew a buffbot Since the staff is determined to keep this customisation though i think its fair game to discuss other customisations to make the impact of this change less painfull for everybody. Barrels where such a thing since it even could be considered 50% livelike. PS: i love discussing this issue if you didnnt notice it yet. Personaly i will benefit from this because im crazy enough to go through all the nececarry hoops to stay full buffed, but i still feel its wrong and strays from a true 1.65 experience Hiois - Ranger 9lX Uth 1.0
