All looking for a beta key for CU... why not just donate 35 bucks and get the fullgame since beta (plus 1 free month when live), other than also support its development? Cmon, see ya there! https://store.camelotunchained.com/

I messed around on Live like I dunno 3 years ago? I only played for about 3 hours on a Scout, was interesting learning the new bow styles. I just B.S.ed with people in the starter guild/broad or whatever the chat was called.
Didn't ask for money even once but soon as I said I hadn't played Live since 2003 people were falling over themselves to give me gold, turned them down since I knew there was no way I was paying the monthly fee.
There will be a group of people out there who will want this realm to be entirely Mythic-like. Exactly like vanilla, drop rates/xp rates, basically everything and you will not be able to please them unless it is exactly like vanilla.
These people have their nostalgia goggles on so tight it's cutting off the bloodflow to their brain and they believe that vanilla was perfect and nothing was wrong with it.

Does it seem like the majority of players over on live now are people who didn't start playing the game in the pre-catacombs/toa era? I remember I saw DaoC on Steam some months back, wtf was that about...

I'm the wrong person to ask since I have only been there 3 hours total since 2003 but I ran into a few people who had been playing off and on since launch one of which was on Merlin Hib when I was Merlin Alb but did not recognize my name at all(I didn't know him either). He said people dip back in from time to time but he didn't know anyone who had been playing from launch-now.

The fund-raising is unbelievable for this game... I'm starting to wonder if it's going to be all money based like WoW...

Also in Sanguine for a while we had Buffdahobo/Revedahobo/Dahobospet/a bunch of other hobo people. Was a group of 3 dudes who played a collection of characters with a similar name scheme.
Anyway, when Uthgard started to go downhill mid-late 2013 they all went to live for more action. Offered to let me use their buffbot/join their guild but again, no way I was going to pay $15 a month to play DAOC.

I don't understand why people moan about paying $15 a month, for a game that is actively run/managed by a company / paying peoples wages, to support a, let's face it, past its sell by date game.
I don't for one second think they are being greedy by charging a little subscription fee to cover costs (unlike games such as Archeage).
Do you realise the alternative is to either close the server/game, or make it free to play which the game model isn't designed for. What would people do? buy GOLD from the cash shop? or ML's? the game is too old.
I don't imagine the company running DAOC atm are making any profit, but are doing it because of their love for DAOC, and with this, 99% of the player base are doing it for the same reason.

The fund raising is enormous for the fact that it is crowd-funded (though 'Exploding Kittens' is more successful). But if you think about GTA 5 (260 million dollar to develop) and TES:Online (200 million dollar to develop) it is not even that much for all the complexity that is required.

you really think it costs that much to develope GTA 5, it is just made to look that way for tax purpose's :p Same thing with movies, on the balance sheet it always ends up with them taking a loss to get around tax's

There's going to be little to no PvE in CU though, so that cuts down quite a bit on development costs.

What do you mean with "wonder if it's going to be all money based like WoW"?
