October update

I wouldn't count on that, Blue and Co won't ever change. It's up to the players to decide if they like it or not ![]() ![]() <<< This avatar is handmade by Inotor Wurzelbert : ) Check out the Mampfer-Threads for more. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=25079 viewtopic.php?f=10&t=26934 |

Hello everyone,
I still have the feeling that UTH 2.0 will debut soon. Staff will want to test the goodness of the code written so far, maybe with a alpha stage involving a small group of experienced players. Followed by a beta stage, with many more players involved, to check the response of the server. And finally, the real release , the beginning of the second UTH era. Happy waiting. I'm trying to free your mind...
But I can only show you the door. You're the one that has to walk through it. |

If the rumours are true and the disintegration of Genesis is underway, I welcome it. Although they probably did a better job at the "other server" than is often credited (considering the time frame etc.), people were already used to Uthgard's professionalism and comparative bug-free status. What people wanted was a server with old RAs and a level playing field for all players, and I think this accounted for the massive initial attraction.
However, they received a new server with the usual - and not so usual - birth pangs: exploits, bugs, instability, constant changing of staff policies - the list goes on and on. The majority of players left and the level playing field vanished like a mirage in the desert. Although Genesis has weathered its worst storms, the damage is done and as soon as Uthgard returns, it will have nothing to offer. Uthgard 2, on the other hand, is now in a truly enviable position. Years of hard, solid and tested work are now combined with an equal footing for everyone and the beautiful "release" atmosphere. The server can also physically handle the influx of players. Of course, the population will dip a bit, as people realise that not everything was hunky-dory back in the old RA days and beating those set-groups proves more difficult, even with comparable RR, than expected. But I'm sure that what is on the horizon is the best it will ever be for good old DAoC. |

Look at this from Genesis. Battle Enforcer in Lions Den-- the 5-9 bg.

Players can greatly contribute to a server if you let them. Uthgard, still the best server. Thanks, Devs. |

i am so bummed... i was convinced to give genesis a try and even with everything everyone has said, i am somehow still let down ... sooo bad, live sucks worse... no where left to go...................................

It's b/c the RvR is so terrible at 50, that everybody stays in either Lions Den or Leirvik |

Has not been any different on Uth 1.0. Players stayed in Thid as long as possible, even commiting suicide hundreds of times to reduce xp in order to be able to stay there. It's the endgame RvR with its high RR gap between players that ruins the fun for many people. Who enjoys getting steamrolled by highly skilled, trained, high RR grps over and over again? Odds are more even, gameplay more random and chaotic in the battlegrounds. To me one of the biggest mistakes in DAoC is the idea to reward high RR player with abilities that make it even more difficult to keep up for lower players. Why would I as a non pro player try to fight hardcore players that outmatch me not only in skill but in game mechanics? I won't, many others won't neither. That's why Thid(Uthgard) and Leivrik(Genesis) are crowded imho. The whole concept of 'matchmaking' that is common in lots of MMOs nowadays was conceived to adress this flaw. Lions Den is a special case because it's the easiest way for casuals to get their hands on some RvR action. You roll your toon, do the starter quests till 5, and there you go. I dont see anything being wrong with that besides the fact that Bonedancers are absolutly OP there ![]() Behold Albion's second biggest pride (right after Squire Galune):

that's why it's so much fun when a server is "fresh" and everyone has to start from scratch: because there's no high rr groups yet, and the playing field is somewhat balanced and even. and you can really shine and try to be the best group with the most rps made and try to get ahead of the pack. doesn't change the fact that it's a good thing that realm ranks award abilities. if you are a good and skilled player with a good guild and play well, you should be rewarded accordingly. that's one of the biggest flaws of modern mmos: that they're too casual, that good play and time/effort investment isn't awarded appropriately. that casual gamers can easily achieve the same things as someone who is really really good. the problem is, that there comes a point where it just stretches out too far, where high realm rank players are too far above everyone else. there comes a point where a server restart or rr wipe is better than just keeping it as it is. I think a "seasonal" system would be great for this. realm ranks should be wiped every 6 months or so, but you should also keep something, maybe a special skin or title or something like that as a reward for your accomplishments in the past, so that it's not completely for nothing. |

But the high RR players tend to QQ about the lack of lowbie players and their refusal to come get their asses handed to them. It's the same on Genesis. It happened to me several times that my "/lfg lion's den" was rudely answered by some elite players like "Nobody wants to play with you in Lions Den! Get to 50 and play real RvR!" But why should I? I'm able to compete with the many other noobs at lion's den, and I'm having fun. Being no more than a snack to a well practised high RR grp? Err ... not so much ![]()
Well instead of a reoccuring wipe: Why not reward RRs solely with special skins, titles or non combat related abilities instead of advantages in combat game mechanics in the first place? But I admit that this is a rather academic discussion since DAoC is DAoC and handing out RR abilities that give you advantages in combat is just the way it works here. I guess I'll just have to deal with it! ![]() Behold Albion's second biggest pride (right after Squire Galune):

with old ream abilities, high rr groups wont have purge 3 charge3 sos2 aotg3 etc..
yea i know albs have sos and so on, but thats on a 30 min timer imo old ra's makes it less difficult for lower rr groups to fight higher rr groups - Honey Badgers

This should be a banned offense. It's in the By-Law's, and moreso, it is just ridiculous. Have an opinion, trash-talk even, but outright hatred or discrimination should be not allowed. As someone who has previously spoken vocally, and explicitly on these message boards, I am pledging to do my best to make sure I never say such things and hold others accountable. Of course we all have slip ups....but such things as this are not slip ups IMO, they are just sad and intolerable, as well as metrics to how things are going on in our own lives. Well and actually fag refers to faggot which is actually a bundle of sticks, which in this case could have meant a number of things. I will not assume they were being homophobic, just insulting which I support when the person is an idiot.

Classic Kildich... What a guy. |

I'm really not insulted by some random boy or girl on the internet. Calling me a fag(got) doesn't really do me much either. It doesn't add anything to the point your trying to make and personally I just stop reading from that point on. Hibernianman1 was spot on when he said:
So there wasn't much left for me to respond to anyway. I however was tempted to make a screenshot of the person who liked the post and just leave it at that. But then again, why feed the trolls when there are enough other things to troll about in the first place. Satiah | Tuthmes | Dendera | Khufu | Nefertete | Dahshur | Nebetah | Neterbaiu
