Not because they owe it to anyone (far from it) but to keep in contact with the loyal fanbase. As in RL, exchanging seemingly meaningless niceties can work wonders. And yes, of course there will be - even then - a tiny minority of ungrateful, yet vociferous people posting negative things. The silent majority, which rarely posts and to whom I count myself, thinks otherwise. Many have been loyal to this game for over a decade, and some almost as long to this server. It is a superb game and Uthgard is the grandiose realisation of a collective nostalgia that connects us all. A year-long downtime, which would have killed many a modern game, has resulted not in the death of Uthgard but in a revitalisation of interest. However, even the most tenacious and loyal of fanbases needs to be nurtured. The News section is, until the relaunch at least, important only from a psychological standpoint, the message being: "you are in safe hands, we share your dream of relaunch and are working on it". It does not matter whether there is nothing new to report on, in the end only a release date is of interest anyway. But until that time, it would be wise to keep the flame burning, especially for the silent majority, which may not furrow through all these comments to find staff posts.

No they don't owe us anything, but if one of them can't take 5 minutes a month to update us then something is seriously wrong. They could take their laptop to the bathroom for a dump and be done writing an update before they had to wipe. It's getting silly, I feel bad for the people who come to this website every day looking for something to show them that there's a light at the end of the tunnel. I know the sheep will come with the same tired responses they've been using for the last year, but that's fine.
