Hmm, I knew there was a lack of motivation after Genesis released and it was quite understoodable, but it ´s sad to hear that the motivation is still not good after almost a year offline. Some ppl said Uthgard will never be up again and I doubt it. Now I ´m not that certain about it. I really hope they won ´t give up this great project, their work is still appreciated by so many ppl. Hopefully they recruit some new gamemasters if they really consider abandon their work. Quite many members of that community have offered their help and I ´m pretty sure some of them are skilled and motivated enough to bring this server back to glory. About that SI topic, if that would be the only reason Uthgard can ´t be unleashed, they should cancel it or release it later, but we all know thats not the reason. I really loved SI and the reason why it is quite empty on Genesis is, that most of the quests are not available, wrong or missing loot tables, no ROG drops, missing mob spots, bad respawn timers and so on. I just played their few months after Uthgard was shut down, but I don ´t think much has changed for good in this case. |

If the staff really lost motivation there's no point in keeping the files private and let Uthgard die. There are countless hours of work in the server files. It would be a shame if they don't use the code with all that work involved. Why not publish them in a git repo so people can contribute? Once a week, every reasonable commit is taken into consideration to use on the server. People then have time to vote for commits and if there are enough positive votes, the code is pushed into the master branch.

Saved this from IRC the other day(2014/12/29)....make of it what you'd like.

I miss my characters but I can't wait to start again. I hope to join a really friendly active guild and meet a lot of REALLY cool chill DAOC players. I've noticed that people were some of the kindest I have ever met when playing this game. I think the RVR element brings people together, but I really really look forward to meeting friendly, fun and awesome people!

On a serious note, the tone of those irc logs, and the idea of a now disinterested staff is saddening.
I think something was lost when Genesis opened, sure, but I think the staff really missed some of the finer points listed in just these past few posts (not including mine LOL): - There is still a very active underground of people who support Uth and wish to see it rise like Phoenix to retake its place of dominance among the free shards. Those people are still checking this site every day. . . I mean, at least 12 of those 75 guests can't be bots. . . that's 12 right there! - If it's just a hobby project to the staff now and their hobbies have shifted, that's fine, but the idea of making the putting the code on gitrepo and letting the community tackle it might not be a bad idea. I can code, and would be willing to learn Python if need be, and my C skills are going to get polished up this semester anyway. Maybe if the current staff or those who have time elbows deep in the code wanted to take a more advisory approach to the commits that others start to work with? Let Uth rise on the backs of those who still love it and cherish it. I hope Blue and his gang aren't so fed up with it that they want to just wash their hands of it. - At the very least put it back to what it was. Let it start fresh again sure, but put it back, let people donate to keep it going. Make the pricing for the server be open, put a very open progress bar that states exactly how much the server needs to stay open this month or the next quarter and let it just run itself. Make sure whatever minor maintenance is needed has someone there to do it by passing the torch. I bet people would still come back for what Uth was. I would. I don't mean this to be shaming or demeaning at all, but I think its a real waste to let something like this just fade. Or even to let rumors of it fading persist. I think Blue has something special here. 75 guests and 7 members right now, a whole freaking year AFTER a FREESHARD is taken offline. I mean really?! That doesn't smack of something being special anymore? In this ****** online universe where nothing has any value anymore; this kind of following can this easily be ignored? Just my serious piece. |

I'd like to reiterate that I'm still available for coding jobs in my free time (granted, there isn't much of it atm, but something > nothing), if a helping hand is needed and/or wanted.

Hi everybody,
Against all rumors we are still alive! I hope you all enjoyed your holidays and we wish you all a good start in 2015! We are still working on Uthgard, to bring a classic Dark Age of Camelot experience back to life. Sincerely, Surtal |
