Those of you who constantly berate people who check in here or other people that ask for an expectation of relaunch (or when to check in again) should be ashamed of yourselves. You also apparently have no concept of an incredibly fragile niche market like this and are actually hurting the few numbers any 13 year old game with dated mechanics and graphics has. The vast majority of people that are interested in playing here, which is at best a few hundred to a few thousand, have lives like you and are busy, and would like a simple update, or even a link to where the latest word is. I want to come here and not spend more than a reasonable amount of time to see if this server is going to launch in the near future. I'd wager the vast majority of people checking in here have already played here, are optimistic from the updated gallery, and all they want is to know an idea of a launch date so they can plan accordingly. This is good for them, and good for the community.

I feel like this is so simple to do, I am embarrassed for some people here that I have to break this down Barney-style to such a degree, and I am not trying to be insulting, I am just relaying how I genuinely feel as I write this and respond to this behavior; instead of flaming people, suggest something helpful that takes away the problem you have and also benefits everybody. Make a locked post with the latest information people that drop by can look at and leave without littering up all the other discussions. Make it obvious for those dropping by, and if someone actually misses it and gets through, its a simple link paste, isn't it? Or just put it on the sidebar!

Now I get an idea of what guys like Gordon Ramsay deal with when he has to actually explain to people if you treat the customers like ******, why are you so seriously surprised an lamenting when there's nobody that wants to hang out here? In a niche market even. If this was my baby I'd place a lot more value on any attention I'd get on this old gem of a game with all the competition out there for people's entertainment and gaming time. This isn't going to come along again, lighten up! Most of the people I see come in here asking when they can play with you all get treated like they aren't welcome. It is incredibly likely the people being treated like this played at the same time with you, many on the same server even, and they come back and those of you talking to them like this are just so mean-spirited I think the admins and yourselves should have a reality check now about what affect this is having on such a small community. These were your friends! The numbers do not replenish much at all for this type of community, and I would recommend everyone take a good look at this behavior.

Genesis did a lot of this type of behavior and they got cocky because they had an insane amount of demand. Hop on over and see how they're doing, and how grown adults with limited time reacted to being treated in such a ****** manner by a small community in a niche market. Genesis players and Uthgard players are just DAOC players and have the same types of trolling/toxicity can be seen in all types of these communities and should be policed well, especially if your idea of the relaunch is as grand and hopeful as others, which is entirely linked to turnout.

Ultimately with my time on this forum and the Origin/Genesis forum, I was most surprised to learn how many people never grew up from DAOC launch (2001) to private hives now. I was like 19, now 33, and the same crappy behavior turns people away, even more now when people have so many other things they could be doing. Please don't be that kind of community here any longer. People will just leave with a bad experience here, and are unlikely to ever return.

Ok Brandon, first of all we are NOT paying the devs to work on the server. They are doing it on their own time and we should be grateful. I don't see gratitude when I read the posts on these forums I see demands, complaints and impatience. We are not customers we are here freely and of our own desire to play on a FREE server. Your telling me that its hard to find people that will play on a free server for one of the best MMORPG's of all time? I beg to differ and even if it was that does not mean the devs have any responsibility to you or anyone else.

I loved playing on this server, I didn't feel like I had to play all the time either because it is/was free. Your almost the worst I have seen so far, because you go the extra mile of really going after people that tell the impatient ones to shut it.

Think about this, say you are working on something for someone out of the goodness of your heart. Your not getting paid and don't really have an idea how long its going to take. Do you think your obligated to update them or listen to them whine and ******? I don't think so.

We are playing a game that THEY are putting all the time and effort into. If you feel obligated for updates by all means start your own freeshard and keep updating...otherwise wait til they feel they are rdy to update.

You both went quite the distance to pin what I'm saying on the devs. This is about YOU.

The ignorance and straw man fallacies you BOTH used just further enrages reason. This is about the community, with a suggestion for the devs to add a feature to completely remove this from being an issue. Instead of talking about that suggestion or improving on it, lets just call criticism "whining" and "complaining".

The fact that the devs are being brought into this discussion as if what I said is remotely the main point of my post is just pathetic white knighting. I was hoping for a much more intelligent take on this, and roundly calling bad behavior (the treatment of players returning and looking for an update) as it is, bad behavior. Again, you should be ashamed of yourselves, you're clearly chasing people away with this behavior, it is indefensible and reprehensible.

This has little to do with devs and everything to do with those in the community who act like cunts. My reply has nothing to do with white knighting in any form. I get just as frustrated as everyone else and I wish i had daily updates...but again they are NOT obligated to. Just like they are NOT obligated to listen to ANY suggestions. People will get mad and either leave or deal with it. I am NOT defending the dev's as I personally do not agree with how they are doing things...but guess what? I am not spending MY time doing all this at no expense or gain.

I wish they would spend a lot more time on the forums replying to people like the genesis peeps do but I don't feel they HAVE to...but yes I would like them to. If I was in charge it would be totally different. But I'm not. I am a player who will be playing a game that THEY are building and i hope to love it.

And I don't have an issue with the uthgard community at all. I like a lot of them and agree with a lot of them. I don't like those that feel entitled to something like so many other kiddies nowadays =)

You guys are overreacting too much Imho.

I shouldnt have to tell you that when you make a service (because that is), especially an entertainment one, if you want to make it great you will also have to make it "comfortable" for your "customers" (in this case the player base).
And i think that if they made this shard great and with the longest "live" (since 2009) is because they want to do something great (hopefully) again.

I suppose that if a service (-or the sorrounding environment-) would treat me like a scum, even if is free, i wouldnt use it, especially if the aim of that service is entertain me.
So things like "if you dont like stfu" or "just dont play" etc. etc. ruin the community income, degradating it during time.. and we will all pay the consequences (players & staff)
Also I'm sure there are thousands ways to tell the same thing with different hate level

Also as a common player, if i'll have to put into this shard a large part of my hours of entarteinment (=life hours!) i would do it if is a nice place, even if is a free. Because i dont think you would do it if one day GM's will delete your toon saying "Well man, it's free, it's our shard so get the ****** out!" -- right?
Luckly, Uthgard has always been one of the most serious project, so hopefully wont be the case!

Just chill and before comment identify yourself in any kind of people here (newcomer, oldplayer, forumtroll, staff member,etc) and think of what would you have done in this position and why.
You would probably understand some attitudes here!
