Genesis will die when Uthgard comes out, population will plummet.
Uthgard has a fan-base that are fanatical devoted, and rightly so, some great work done.
I personally think Genesis done a good job in the short time as well, but it's hard to compete with 10+ years of work.

And a while after Uthgard will also die out, unless the Staff somehow manages to create a miracle server that caters to all the DaoC player styles. PvE (xp, farm, epic, etc etc), solo, small man, 8 man, pugs, zergs and keep the 3 way realm fights going without a realm dominating to much/long.

DaoC is over, to few people left to play it, and the few left do their best to chase away new people as well as each other.
Casuals not going to Frontier because 8 mans farm them, 8 man guilds calling casuals cowards but doing nothing to try encourage casuals to come out to RvR. Only zergs will make casuals come out, but that makes 8 man guilds log (and usually also results in 2 realms fighting each other only).

DaoC is a social/ecosystem study on how humans fail, again and again, to realise you can't harvest if you don't sow.

And as I look at my own post, I am tempted to do an instant reply telling myself to man up and stop QQ'ing, because that is the DaoC way of handling people who are frustrated at the current game situation.

No matter the situation, Daoc was and is the best game for me at the moment.

Just so much pleasure to log and play...

You are definitely right about "cant harvest if you dont sow" and it will indeed depend on the amount of population: this only happens when 2 groups are roaming in an empty zone. People have to accept to rel without insulting everyone, begin to understand each other and try to keep this small community alive if we still wanna enjoy...

Seeing Uthgard : 0 player, makes me realise how much I miss it

"unless the Staff somehow manages to create a miracle server that caters to all the DaoC player styles. PvE (xp, farm, epic, etc etc), solo, small man, 8 man, pugs, zergs and keep the 3 way realm fights going "

I believe in Uthgard 2, so I must believe in miracles...

I to want to believe.

And I believe Uthgard will be the best bet, and while my heart is with Genesis for the work they've done, I am pragmatic enough to understand that one server will be sacrificed.
So I'd rather want one server to succeed, than be stubborn and stay on Genesis and have both fail.

Population is everything, so Uthgard it is.

exactly what i mentioned around a year ago, we need more casuals in RvR, which means in first case -> Zerg
after a time we (the ´´better´´ players) will see the casuals improve and in the end we will also recruit out of those casuals our new members to keep our guilds alive.

but i also think there is a great behavior with this fairplay/realmpride issue.
since fairplay depends on your PoV there is no real fairness, but a fact is that this fairplay mind destroys the rest of the realmpride, which is (at least for me) a major part of this game.

now i will quote ma wise man working on camelot unchained: ´´ in the end the realmpride is a community thing, we will do what we can to benefit realms for the realmpride, but if the players dont act towards it, we cant do anything.´´
and thats exactly what we miss, a community which accepts that there is more than just 1 way to play (calling to you 8mens!)

gladly the humans never see their own mistakes, but call out when they see mistakes at others :D

This is good stuff.

Sekunda, there is a difference between QQ'ing and simply naming a harsh reality. I believe you fall solidly on the side of harsh reality with this post.

You are right to fear a repeat of the past, and particularly Uth 2.0 eventually dying out in the same manner as Uth 1.0. This is my fear as well. Assuming relaunch, I have been stumping hard for more realm inclusivity, because this I feel was the most prominent problem Uth 1.0 faced (and that includes all the dev work and testing that still needed to be done). IMO, on Uth 2.0, we must as a server community, figure out how to interact with each other such that we can: a) achieve our individual goals so that we desire to continue to play; and b) not drive others away, particularly newcomers or the less skilled.

However, on the flip side, I get how frustrating it is to help newcomers level and gear up, invite them to your guild, etc etc...only to see them quit because they: got bored; or they were intimidated by RVR; or RL came up (which is totally valid IMO BTW); or any number of other reasons. I don't have any good answer for this attrition problem, but I do know that intentionally trying to include others who are less established than you on Uth 2.0 will definitely help the overall cause.

So, at the end of the day, Uth 2.0 will live if lives (and is born), and die if it dies. All we can do as players is try and support Blue and Co., play as much as we can, and lastly, try to have a ton of fun without jeopardizing the entire servers future for our goals. That is why I love these forums...we can communicate and understand others needs/desires just by reading their postings. This gives us at least a subset sampling of the population, and I would hope that most viewpoints are expressed here over time, though I am also cognizant of the fact that there are still surely some constituents of Uth who never have, nor will post here. But by reading, thinking about and trying to respect others viewpoints, even when they don't coincide with yours....well, that alone will go a long ways for Uth 2.0 as well.

All the best Friends, and Long Live Uth! =)

Who wants to go to 10 different battle grounds? That is one of the most fun things on Uthgard IMO. I quit Genesis because of them not having the BGs like this. And the massive and out of control group bonus that they had on thier server turned me off. I felt like I didnt even earn my levels on that server. I made lvl 30 in a day and a half there. WHAT?? blah..

I like to own poeple in the 5-9 battleground with my twink!!11! :D
There was a time when Uthgard 1.0 existed and maaaany toons and arrpees arose... but now:

lordgriffon wrote:Oh by the way... ever seen a group of 8 smite clerics? Or play against a group like that? I have. Absolute devastation. The group that runs up against them can't kill them fast enough because smite clerics have sooooooo many tools at their disposal combined with decent ranged damage with 8 of them dudes doing it!

I'd like to think that the fact that GM's are posting during the World Cup is news in itself...;)
