I am indifferent to the changes that are happening to this server, but I can say that as a new player about 6 months ago, I quit because there were not a lot of players during my primetime (USA). Here's a list of proposed changes I would implement on the new server going forward.
1) Group Xp Bonus, but NOT to the extent that Origins has. I feel that DAoC should always be a grouping game, where players that want to solo should be able to, and not feel forced to group. That being said, I do feel the leveling rate on Uthgard was a tad bit slow. I wouldn't increase xp across the board, instead, try a system that increases everyone wanting to group, not even full groups. Give having 2 people in a party an automatic 15% bonus xp after the xp is split, and add a additional 5% per each member to a total 40% bonus with a full 8 man group. The rational to adding a 15% bonus for duos is that when the server has been out for awhile, and people are trying to level in semi dead zones, they will still be encourage to group with at least one other person. This bonus will help healers getting up there to aid their realm faster, while still allowing solo based chars their freedom to do what they want without feeling forced to group for best xp. 2) Realm Point distribution needs to be changed with old RA's implemented. I never understood why such core abilities to RvR were required to get RR5 for back in the day, and I still do not now. I propose one of two things, either make all RR5 abilities granted to chars upon reaching level 50 OR make RR5 exponentially easier to get to (= to RR3) and then disperse those points to increase the amount it takes to get realm ranks after RR5. RR5 abilities are a MUST in rvr, by giving all players access to them, you are removing the huge advantage that high RR chars have over low RR chars that essentially makes it impossible for them to win against. With this change, freshly made groups that have skills, not just time invested will be able to compete in a competitive rvr landscape. High RR chars will still have advantages over low RR chars, but by no means to the extent that it is today. 3) Leave everything else as it is but implement SI and SI classes correctly. Take this time, do some testing, and make sure everything works before launching. Don't do what Origins did and have raid bosses killable with 1 man groups that spawn every 30 seconds. Make sure what you release is true to the time. I wouldn't be against a staggered launch either. Launch with classic while you continue to work on SI/SI zones, disable all Si classes, disable spellcrafting and alchemy, and release the base game as it was, and when all is ready release SI down the road. Not drastically important, but will increase the nostalgia of the old days when not everyone had perfect templates and 95% DF gear was the stuff to have ![]() But I just wanted to end this on a nod to the developers. I didn't play here long, and I am sure there is much animosity between players and developers, but for you guys to be involved with a project for so long, and the amount of time you have put into this, I salute you. I wish the best for you on your plans going forward, and if there is anything we can learn from past experiences of any project is that communication between parties is key. Take that for what it is worth, thanks again for all your hard work, and best of luck! |

I actually think it's exactly the other way around. If you want to draw a comparison to economy it's the high RR players who are the welfare recipients here, who try to reject normal market processes and ask for controlled economy so that the government enables them to maintain their beloved jobs they have been working in for the last 20 years despite the fact that the market isnt really interested in the wares you produce anymore. While most of your coworkers already left for another employer, you sound like the hardline union official who won't except any sacrifice even in the face of economical crisis. |

Doing a total wipe won't help the server in my opinion, since after 2-3 months there will be already a difference between hardcore and "playforfun" players, which means rr4-5 full groups roaming while other players are still lev 30...after 1 year u'll have rr11 full groups roaming vs random pugs of rr3-4. So if your intent is removing the difference between old and new players, just do a RR reset, so u'll really have (atleast at start) a quite balanced rvr. Anyway there will always be difference between hardcore/good/experienced players and random/forfun/social players, because this game is more than 10 years old.
Furthermore i guess many players won't come back if you do a total wipe, but new players will come for sure. So, again, i suggest to do just a RR reset, so you'll have old players returning and new players beginning to play here, which means a higher population. I think you're making a risky bet. My 2 cents, Jeaf. PS: of course, next uthgard opening should have Old ras and SI (and maybe all SI classes), otherwise you're just digging your own grave... |

Considering the complete character wipe, the logical thing for all of us players is to restart on origins permanently. There is absolutely no reason for us to come back for uthgard 2.0, no matter what changes are implemented. This is a fact and therefore uthgard must stay gone for good. If they do restart the server with all characters deleted, they will realize upon their return that all of the people that once played on uthgard before are either firmly established on origins or have quit daoc for good, never to return.
It is over here, and I am slowly coming to grips with the concept that I wasted my time mostly soloing my healer from Exp lvl 1 to RR6L6, while farming 3 full MP full cap suits, with a 3.1 speed hammer. I'm going to be honest. I cried a little upon reading the news. There were a lot of people I really enjoyed playing with. You might find me on origins. To the bitter end, Halbaag |

I agree with you, i think the only reason that could make people coming back to uthgard is that origins is still full of bugs/lag when uthgard 2.0 is live. edit: i mean for people who already plays on origins |

Awesome!

Well I have to admit, I didn't see this coming. I started on Uthgard over 2 years ago, and this server was one of my few experiences with DAOC. I was more of an EverQuest guy back in the prime of these games. One of the main reasons I even bothered to try this server is because I saw there would never be a wipe.
I invested a lot of time on this server, and eventually even got my wife to start playing with me. (Her first time ever playing a mmorpg) We are very casual gamers... over 2 years and my highest level isn't even 50 yet. (only 48) If there is a wipe, we won't be back. However that is not to say that a wipe won't be the best thing for the server. Who knows, it may help, or it could totally backfire on you. People in general enjoy fresh starts, and that holds true even for DAOC servers. So while the server may lose some casuals like me and my wife, it will probably gain even more new blood to replace us. So...Thank you Uthgard staff for providing a great gaming experience for casuals like me and my wife for the past few years. It was a fun ride, too bad it couldn't of lasted longer. Good luck with your new server. 2 LGM crafters, a big alchemy business & a ton of alts/houses...signing out. Clanggedin & Amalla PennyWise <Frugal Friends> Kurtulmak - Legendary Alchemist Extraordinaire, closed for business. Last edited by Clanggedin on Jan 25, 2014 20:45, edited 1 time in total.

Maybe there is absolutely no reason for anyone to play with people like you! I knew it . I´m surrounded by ..... [Dark Helmet] |
|
I hope you are joking. Do you actually support a server wipe of every character? |
|
ive been playing off and on in uthgard for over 4-5 years now and its been a great run. Yes ima casual player that only has 1 lvl 50 and a bunch of other near 50s. Ive played this game for fun and to unwind from RL. Comming on here with all the "nerfs" and existing bugs was annoying and frustrating at times but you couldent beat playing one of your favorite MMOs For Free. I really do hope that with this wipe that the GMs actualy take their time (but not to much time cause im not going to origins and i need my Daoc fix!
