Almost what i would do to bring back the ship into calm waters... instead of abandon it ^^

1. Yes, or.. maybe as extreme a Rps wipe introducing Old RAs to let all start "testing/knowing" them (even if new ras are more fun at high levels)

2. Exactly, there are some part of the game that are "obsolete" (in a good way speaking about feelings) that could be adjusted and revamped with a solid/newer way to be (transports / RvR missions / xp bonuses & pve tasks / hasteners / bottles / recharge stones) and even if are not strictly "livelike" would not touch the classic core of the game (the thing that we all like, and got lost in further patches)

3. Well, i would agree on that too, because stability and lag are serious matters on an online game, and Uthgard have those features working, BUT, people have been waiting for *new* contens for years, and got refresh Uthgard we need some of them for sure (SI classes working, SI zones opened, RvR system revamp), seeing things getting added keep warm and happy the playerbase, especially when many lose faith.

4. That's right too, we (at least who really care about that project) were frightened about the increasing gap between a newcommer (that's different than "just low RR" <--) and an estabilished player, so help those guys to speed up their integration into society would keep the server with a good and fresh new blood income. (like more rps for low ranks, new kind of tasks that aim to rvr dynamic instead of PvE dynamic (kill guards = kill mobs), increase the Xp bonus for the first levels (till first BG for example) and more xp from killing people inside BGs, also add a "CK Take Task" that could give some good XP --> More ppl in bg, more CK swap (for realm 20% xp bonus) => more fun.)

That's could be a good way to save the "Uthgard Ship" from the "Origins Tsunami" !

Hoping for a Staff responce, you are still in time! :!:
Salutes, Yarr!

Best of luck to the staff, whatever transpires in the next few weeks. I have had some great years entertainment on this server and met some great players, friendlies and enemies alike. I do hope it all works out for you. Ciao for now all! Perhaps see you all in another life?! :)

I hope uthgard wouldnt completely shutdown but instead run in an unsupported legacy mode while all staff concentrate on working on new features for a relaunch. When the launch occurs then take it down and people can migrate to the new server instead of breaking up the existing community and causing a mass exodus to origins (the only viable alternative).

best decision since 2 years. well, it's quite simple:

#1 - give players as much fun as possible (that means not easy-mode on)
#2 - create an environemt, that player spend most of the time in RvR
#3 - you should not annoy players with avoidable micromanagement / timesinks
#4 - give players an equal chance
#5 - save the digital ownership

under the line there had been too much (bad) changes in the last 2 years,
for example (not complete):

disabling barrels
initial thought was to switch off liquid-fueled pocket buffs.
the real consequences had been: charge items had become the "uthgard artifacts", RvR active players need an own alchemist for self-supply, lots of time wasted on transfering ingle pots, new players lost their income to pay 1st gear from selling barrels.

switch off dragonfly express
not that important, but annoying.

decrease xp in battlegrounds
why not getting MUCH xp in small RvR? animating players to RvR is the main content of DAOC.

removing of XP-off
removing this functin is not
helpful. established players dont care about the money for healers, new ones have the disadvantage.

housing rent change
initial thought was to free up lots from inactive players. activating the new rule with only ONE week offset has lead to massive house termination, which was complete unnecessary. the correct way wouldhave been: terminate houses of confirmed banned accounts, activate ALL availbile lots, terminate lots from players with 1 year or more inactive. then have a look, may be later decrease to 6 month.

digital ownership and achievements bind players to a game/server.

remove tajendi
just switching off tajendi enlarges the gap between old and new players. the correct way would have been: deleting all items which are not longer availible and pay players some money for it, setting up NPCs to clear SC from gear.

no XP/RP while beeing dead
winning is the success of theWHOLE group. some classes die ealier than others (i.e. casters, bards). no reason to punish them for beeing first target. this also leads to a lot of avoidable stress for healers.

battleground change
forcing players to open RvR with a max. of RR3 in times of lots high RR players is the wrong way.
this change gives the taste to bring more easy-to-kill RP-food for high RRs.

DAOC evolved a lot during time. even on targeting 1.69, its not helpful to hardline everything to that patch goal. a lot of improvements made later to maximize player experience and make the game better.

with nearly every change, the gap between old and new players had become bigger and bigger.

whats the success of origins even if the server is currently laggy and buggy? it gives a limited time, where players have similar chances. they got SI and ALL classes. starting from scratch is a feeling like the first days of daoc...

There is no evidence that Uthgard is listening to their player base, even here. And instead of creating a long-term solution, they go for a wipe, which means this situation will eventually repeat.

All evidence points to that Uthgard doesn't want what the players want, but what is PERFECTLY classic. The irony is that even then players found many gripes, and after 11 years, recreating every one of them isn't the way to go. Blue can look forward to having a server by himself.

I'll close with a funny quote from this thread:
Experienced players should consider this a forced retirement...Hopefully, most of them do not come back... It is time for the next generation

Too late guys... too late. Better listen to your players instead of deleting their posts^^

I think this is the right way. I think alot of players will come back from Origins or other games to play on Uthgard again,
and I think there will be alot of new players too.

And to the players crying, what was the bigger fun? Getting RR/Money/Items or maybe was the fun getting it?

I´m 100% sure I will come back, because I had A FU*CKING LOT of fun in the last years. (sry staff but its the truth^^)
And I´m sure the staff will keep the last weeks in mind and wont do the same again.

And wasnt Uthgard in Beta all the years anyway? :D

FOR A NEW UTHGARD

Oh P.S.

Actually that was the problem, they were listening to the wrong people, people that wanted nerfs and that were qqing all the time.

Uthgard still has the best product they just have a demographics, vision, and marketing problem.

The solution to all of this is to listen to their players.

1. Do what your players want don't make them do what you think would be the ideal.

2. Stability is very important-- do not wipe your history and all the toons ever made.

3. Welcome new players-
a. 2x rps below rr needed to compete-- what do u think that is? 6l0?
b. 2x XP

4. Don't forget that Uthgard is still THE standard and the most successful server.

5. Tell stories or allow your players to tell stories.
https://www.uthgard.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=37632

Players can greatly contribute to a server if you let them.

Uthgard, still the best server. Thanks, Devs.

Wiping Uthgard = loosing credibility

really blue think a bit more before doing that Try other way first it dont cost anything to finish the works and try beofre making a useless wipe really

Old ra and origin's lag will bring back lots of people and shard can have greate action with 600 players on it. 160 people on origin actually and lagging as hell

One last tip to the staff:

Try to make some advertising (dont know if its the right word^^ Werbung)
May try to send a few E-Mail to Gaimingshows like Game-One.
Dont know if its allowed to advertise a Freeshard.....

I think there are a lot old DAoC-Players that would like to play here when Uthgard is back and just dont know it exists.

I´ll tell all of my gaming friend of the new start.

Hope to see you soon

Another Idea would be a Coop-Project Uthgard-Origins but I´m not sure if the would work.
It could be the best or the worst^^

I thoroughly hope Uthgard gets wiped. It will bring in a new player base and give the veterans a chance to restart and roll the new kids anyway. Besides, now that Uthgard won't be the only server of it's kind, maybe the GMs/admin won't have a stick so far up their asses. Maybe we'll see a decrease in the amount of times Blue says "go play somewhere else". I doubt either server will die, competition is good for both servers.
