Hey all, I played DAOC when it first released, and haven't been back in 7-8 years now.

Long story short, my question is:
What classes are looked for most in RVR?
I'm looking for a class to play that is:
*Decently solo able (leveling up)
*Preferably not a caster, never been much of a fan.
*Can be healer/melee dps/tank
*Not super expensive to template, since I'll be starting from scratch.

Appreciate any input, thanks.

clerics and mercs are the most used classes, merc is easy to level up with crush spec (i suggest half ogre)

before every1 jumps in and cries "reaver":

needed:

sorc, theurg, cleric, pala, caba, reaver, merc

3 of them fall out due to being casters

the rest:
cleric: always sought for in rvr, if specced smite you can solo very easy...i did it and it was my fastest levelling class by far...though you should respec at 40, as smite sucks in end rvr :P...cleric-temps are not that expensive, if you don't wanna cap everything to the max (like qui or str or some not-so-important resists)

pala: most rvr-grps need one, rarely see grps without...not too much dps but with chants not autotraining leveling is fairly fast and it's almost impossible to die :P -> also quite cheap temp, as pala doesn't need everything capped...though plate costs a little more

reaver/merc: good soloing, best killspeed...reaver has lower downtime as well and is used in most raids and rvr-grps as well...dunno for temps, but prolly quite expensive, as many skills and stats need to be capped (str-con-dex-qui-parry-shield-weapon (reaver: souldrend.))...

my 2 cents....i'd pick a caby but hey, it's me afterall :D

Why Cabby? I know they're a caster, but I used to play a SM back in the day and Casters with pets aren't all that bad. Id assume they're over played though, they used to be anyways.

PS- What about minstrel?

Setup is mostly pala, cleric, cleric, sorc, theu, 3x dps (mercs, caba, not always reaver)....

So I would recommend pala, cleric, or merc. There is an abundance both of theus and reavers.

Or even better - roll 2 or 3 out of these classes with time, so you can switch to the needed one.

P.S.: Reaver is not hard to temp, as you usually leave out sr and piety.

PPS do not play minst if you want to 8v8 regularly

i'd pick SM or menta over caby, but i looooooove alb...so i gotta stick with caby :D...though by now i prefer caba over both :P

and why not propose minstrel? dunno how it's soloing...prolly quite good with a good pet but what i heard minstrel is not sooo fast soloing...maybe with tasks due to speed :D

but in rvr most grps don't take a minstrel (i love mins in grp!) and he asked for a rvr-toon...besides minstrel is impossibly expensive to temp, right? at least from what i hear...

Roughly 120p+ for an all cap, "some"-utility temp...

I do princes with Pala Reaver Theu Cleric, and if I want to speed it up with 2nd Reaver. Absolutely no need for 2nd heal/buff. Even the cleric always says he s bored because he doesnt need to heal a lot cos of pbt. Every more char means less loot for all, and there arent too many mobs in df to kill (princes, hl, dommel, princess). To speed up or when df is closed i take xp leech with me.

Merc, Cleric, Sorc or Theurg. Probably in that order. Not that many Mercs around, too many Reavers (no stoicism or charge)

Reaver is a god for end game PvE raids. Want to make money? Roll a reaver.
There will be a group of people out there who will want this realm to be entirely Mythic-like. Exactly like vanilla, drop rates/xp rates, basically everything and you will not be able to please them unless it is exactly like vanilla.

These people have their nostalgia goggles on so tight it's cutting off the bloodflow to their brain and they believe that vanilla was perfect and nothing was wrong with it.

Word!

Never done them with more than 1 Cleric. Never had a friar within. Only for social-xp-spot in the group.
