Videos showing in 1.69 terrain didn't block line of sight

Collecting all the videos people have that shows that terrain doesn't block line of sight in 1.69

If you have another video showing casting from 1.69 that would be impossible on uthgard because of bugged line of sight please post it here. Or if you have a video showing anyone getting a target not in view message and being unable to cast because of terrain Line of Sight in Old Frontiers please post it (waste of time to search for this btw there aren't any because terrain didn't block it)

Also, maybe Blue could chime in as to how many videos showing casting through hills are needed before it is "sufficient evidence"

As I developed the spell system in 2004, I tested on live at that time and the LOS check at begin and end of cast was ofcourse there. I remember the message because I tested it with trees between target and caster.

If you don't bring up patch notes which show a change this must be considered some glitch/lag in the video.

And, by the way, this is entirely possible with client hacks as well. You certainly can't rule that out just based on a video. It wouldn't be the first time people have put their cheats in RVR videos/screenshots.

Trees are not ground.
Ground never blocked LOS in OF, and you'll never see a vid showing not in view from ground, and every vid shows casting through ground.

The 1.70 patch notes do make note of LOS changes btw ("As a part of the New Frontiers expansion, the line of sight code has been revised"), just didn't detail all of them specifically. The video doesn't show 1 lagged cast through the ground, beteeen the two vids there is half a dozen casts straight through the ground, you can't explain that with uthgard/NF los rules.

That's also why cathal valley.the NF version of emain was made so insanely flat,
with ground blocking los they couldn't put in the same features of OF emain cause you'd have LOS all over like uthgard.

And ground los hack in OF is hilarious, I guess 250k players were using it then.

If you use /hidegraves they dont block LOS anymore xD funny, but true :D

Mark Jacobs replied to a PM I sent him on the CU internal forums, and both he and two old school DAoC players/CSE devs also agree that Old Frontiers ground did not block line of sight.

So to recap the evidence so far we have.


Multiple videos showing somewhere around 6 or 7 casts ignoring ground for Line of Sight. With clear screen grabs highlighting this fact.


Patch notes that confirm there were line of sight changes made in 1.70.


The creator of the game saying he believes that ground did not block line of sight in OF, and he confirms his belief with 2 devs at his current company that played a ton of DAOC in OF and agree.


How much more evidence is needed now?

This is an answer I can respect, but it makes me wonder how they made the change in 1.70


Also, shouldn't this either be added to the custom list, or given a low priority tracker like the necro as something that "should be but probably never will"?
