Just reinstalled Windows 8 onto a new hard drive. Nothing but DAOC and DAOC Portal on it. No AV. No custom UI.

Maybe my backed up DAOC files are corrupt. Might have to download the entire client again.

atlantis UI can be outdated if you didnt patch properly

You could try to Login the chars via batchfiles, maybe it works. Note, updated daocportal must be installed too.

Otherwise I would try to install daoc new and downgrade/patch it with newest daocportal version, it ´s probably an issue caused by version/Client conflicts.

Anybody found a solution for this?

Im experiencing the same thing, my lvl 48 toon just wont even get past the character selection screen (doesn't even bring up the loading screen, crash to desktop). all other toons load and run fine.

Fresh install of windows 8, administrator more turned on for daoc and daoc portal, all patched with daoc portal patcher, tried various game.dll versions, no antivirus installed on the PC and windows defender is disabled, no cutom UI installed, have downloaded the game client 3+ times.

It's a long shot, but try the following...

[1] Close out of Dark Age of Camelot completely.
[2] Press WIN+R.
[3] Type, and press OK: %appdata%
[4] Browse into 'Electronic Arts\Dark Age of Camelot\LotM\'
[5] Locate two files with your character name, ignore the number after them.
[6] Move those files to your desktop as a backup, or delete them.
[7] Close the window, and launch normally to test.

Scratch this... Just read later posts saying Windows was re-installed.

if its not the UI, you should ask a GM to move you to the capital city.

I had the same problem : all my "advanced" char could not log from my laptop with windows 8
but small toon were all OK
and i can log with other computer...

finally i found THE guilty process in windows !!

try to kill a process tabtip.exe, it's a virtual keyboard on asus computer

pay attention if you click on taskbar keyboard icon you will launch it back !
you will need to kill him again before launch daoc
