"hire" more moderators, from multiple time zones.

With a project like this, a larger team usually causes more problems then it solves. Stepping on others toes, doing one thing that prevents another from doing their thing. You get the point.

Ok. You'll also need to sort out the bugged items thread of all the fixed items and senseless discussions :D

Just locking a thread would not be that good of a method,
and especially if you look back on what changes have brought with them the past 8 months.
(The notion of 'do it ones and do it right' is proven to be long gone...)

One change might cause other bugs, or not even be correct.
All you do with locking a thread is prevent new input, it can be new data, correction of old data or just cause and effect of the changes made.
It should be easier to track issues if they were all contained in separate entities, rather than to force them across multiple threads.

Same goes for streamlining report threads, since it more often than not will remove information that have some substance on the subject.

i gotta disagree on that...imho once a bug is "fixed" the actual thread can be locked...if the fix proves to be based on wrong assumptions or sources this deserves a whole new thread and is a "new" bug as well...surely one can link the original thread in the new one, but it's a new issue and needs to be addressed as something new...

and concerning "do it once but do it right" in terms of some fixes cause new bugs...yes, that's always possible....i think the general idea of blue's credo here is that a bug in itself is to be fixed "once but right"...sure it may cause side effects on other issues that are hard to test in a reasonable time frame and with limited staff...so it's better to fix something "right" and hope there's no bigger side effects...and IF there are some one can always either fix the effects or roll back...not a nice way but a good way for having progress at all...otherwise you could never fix anything without having at least 50 player constantly testing every new fix for 3+ days, which is practically impossible..

Locking is not needed.
It's done when it's done. Thanks for your patience.
Every bug gets fixed. Sooner or later.

But still create Sub-Forums for the Bugs which are solved, trackered and "open" would help a lot to get a better overview!

better not joke about me being mod...never been mod but as I tend to go off topic sometimes as well and I also join spam-discussions now and then (usually when i don't have much to do at work), i'll be very strict on exactly these things...all the spam and off-topic things in the reports kinda make'em unreadable...dunno how much effort that is, but imho if a mod only takes care of a particular section it should be manageable :)
