lifecycle of a bug

i am fully aware of this, but that doesn't explain why some bugs get a tracker sooner than others... also as for what kroko mentioned: i know that simple bugs get trackers sooner but my reports are solved and especially the stun-immu-timer thread has proof for what i reported, so no calculations and so on needed...the other one, ok, the info is scattered but i also have a summary in the initial post, which includes it all and is enough in itself to fully understand and confirm the bug, so i don't know why it doesn't have a tracker yet... edit @ kroko: the example you give with implementing a quick fix before lunch vs a new feature etc. is fixing again....I don't care about the fixing-order, i only care about the assignment of trackers...whe fixing-queue is entirely staff-decission and can be influenced by the community with bumps etc. etc., but tracker-assignment should be done as soon as there's no questions left and a bug is confirmed... I'm not entirely convinced the patch notes you posted are 'the whole story' without further confirmation, myself.

don't try to sidetrack THIS thread by answering to a report i used for an example...you should give this reply in the respective thread (along with possible solutons how to give proof maybe) but not HERE!... sometimes it feels like your user-avatar has a double meaning... again: i don't wanna talk about specific thread, but i wanna know how giving tracker-ids is determined....even admitting "yes, we do it depending on personal interest and which threads suit us best" would be an answer...not a very satisfying answer, but honesty is better then nothing and at least every1 knew what they had to face when making reports... Your questions were already all answered.
RL time. Lack of info. Unclear points. What is the issue? |
|
RL time should be the same for all reports lack of info and unclear points is basically the same point...and there's lots of threads where no staff-member asked for additional info of clarification but still the thread has no tracker...sometimes he staff even participated in the discussion in the thread without asking questions or anything... thats the issue...assigning trackers to some threads and none to others without any comments...that's why i wanna know how you decide where to give a tracker... and if reports on issues that are valid bugs but are not 100% researched (i.e. some behaviour is wrong, the correct behaviour is clear but, to your opinion, not fully proved, will you post that in the thread? can hardly imagine that otherwise there'd not be so many untrackered threads without any further staff-requests for info... if I have time to formulate a thoughtful post about what may be missing sure.

The time issue is not always relevant, especially when you see some GM's spent more time doing silly moderation on the forums, than it would take to verify something, or give a constructive feedback.
Personally I am not a big fan of the deviations in the decisions made to implement some fixes quickly, but not others. It was ones said that ALL 1.69 patch changes would come at the same time, but sadly that is only relative to certain, and not all changes. ![]() What I really want now is constructive replies in reports rather than useless repetitive replies. When a staff-member reads through a report, and find out that it is lacking in info to get a tracker. Then for god sakes explicitly mention it, so that the report can get somewhere. Sometimes it is similar to when your gf is mad at you, and you ask what is wrong, and the reply is just: "you should know that very well". She assume you odd to know what made her mad, when the fact is you might be completely oblivious in the matter.

I like these parts and fully agree...especially the second one is quite a good analogon though my wife luckily doesn't act like this anymore ![]() Genuine Spirit Cabalist since 2002

Maybe visibility of untracked reports could be promoted by moving all tracked items to be moved into a sub forum?
then if you only see unconfirmed bugs and issues, it might aid people in gathering relevant data. Take a look at the bug report forum right now; the vast majority of items are already tracked and are just being bumped. Moving them to a "Tracked Threads" sub forum would allow people to easily see what needs more work and what is already good enough. |
|
wooot great idea! i support this wholeheartedly! maybe add 2 sub-forums to bug-reports: tracked issues and bug-archive (like in research)...archive-forum for fixed issues and tracked-forum for..well..tracked ones ![]() Genuine Spirit Cabalist since 2002

Think also thats a great idea.
Made some Sub-Forums for Bug-Reports. Solved Trackered Open and not trackered. Would be give a better overview.
|
|
And increase moderation time. Whats wrong with locking fixed bugs?
|
|
locking is not always done the danger of non-trackered threads being overseen is still there...just move all the trackered but non-fixed issues to a subforum and you don't have to moderate a lot there...no need to check if it's a valid report whatever...imho it's less moderation-effort, cause you only really have to take a look at the untrackered bugs more or less...
