Either would work. I prefer Kobold myself, can't get over how Valkyns run. :D

The group that runs up against them can't kill them fast enough because smite clerics have sooooooo many tools at their disposal combined with decent ranged damage with 8 of them dudes doing it!

Yeah, as Austerim said, most people take kobies cause they are smaller and because they can't stand the limp on Valkyns. But Valkyn has superior resists to any other race in game, even for a bow hunter he's probably better than koby, I don't think 5 less dex makes any difference. Also, kobolds have horrible resists for solo play, literally ****** and horrible...5% crush and 5% energy. On top of 5% body and 5% cold valk has 3% slash and 2% thrust I believe, and your armor is weak to slash, so every little bit helps.

The idea of that is great, but the reality is not so much.

A valkyrn will have 43 less hp(might be more, since uth is not 100% correct on all races), 5 more str, 5 more qui, and 5 less dex than a kobold.
For resists he will have 3% slash, 2% thrust, and 5% body over the kobold.

So on paper it should be a superior choice.

In reality the difference is not that big.
Viper3 currently hits a kobold for 120 damage, while it hits a valkyrn for 115 damage.
Counting the hp difference, that means 9 viper3 procs before valkyrn is on top.
Now tell me. When did you last survive 9 ticks?

Summary:
If you add in the melee resists the valkyrn is a better pick, if you can stand looking at it.
The differences are rather marginal however.

To pick a valkyrn only because of the 5% body would however be folly.

I guess you are right, differences are marginal, but Valkyns look cooler and they do have overall better resists. I mean, limp sucks but they look like hunters, kobolds look hmmm, like someone's mischievous pet. Btw, are you 100% sure on 43 HP difference? Isn't it less?

5 con is around 22hp not 43
at least with my ranger i get 88hp more with a con pot.
and it will tick for 114 per tick. so by the 4th tick hitting a valkyn is better.
