FIrst: sorry for my bad english

In reallife:
why people try to be fair in a social comunity?
1. hes a good one
2. his aim is that other people are fair to him too
3. all people know that hes fair AND all people know when hes NOT fair
4. the community gives a feedback to him

Point 3. and 4. is a social balancing progress, people who are not fair get punished and degradated. Only when people stay outside of the community (hes a king or a or an unsocial/criminal man), the community cant regulate this progress.

In game:
hey, its the same :-)

But what can help???

1. monthly election for the fairest player on the server
2. monthly election for the unfairest player on the server
3. monthly announcing of the election results in the Herald - Hall of fame for the first 3 topscores
4. all ingame titles are overwriten by this result, means: fairest player, second fairest player, third fairest player, unfairest player, second unfairest player, third unfairest player

I think some player on the server need this feedback and thats the clue: some other people have to know that some people are NOT the right role model/guide for other. And if someone think about himself hes the KING of the server, lets tell him hes the outlaw/criminal.

thank to all, who support my petition

stupid topic anyway but maybe opener can tell me what is more "unfair" ?

1. see a fight, dont attack, let the all your own comrades die

2. help your comrades but overwhelmed the enemy

i don't like the way he pointed it out and in general i am more of the "fair" kind of player too (fair in terms of not adding 1:1 fights etc.)...

however, he's got a good point...if you see a one on one...which is fairer: not adding and giving the enemy a fair chance to fight your realm mate OR letting your realm mate die to the enemy (in case he loses)?

the definition of fair is not that easily done...to me fair is leaving fights that "seem" fair alone and just watching them or whatever...however, the fight might not be so fair as it seems, cause one of them had only 50% life to begin with, one had no RAs up, the other one all of them etc. etc. - it's really hard to define "fair" here so this voting etc. will never come and if it should came, it wouldn't say anything about "fair" players at all...

thanks for your posting jezzmin

yes, its difficult, and there are many many topics about this with no result. There are to many definitions about the question "What is fair gameplay?" And i dont want to refresh this, we dont reach a result again.

But, and this is a fact of statistic:

the most of us have an ordinary feeling about fairness and i dont wanna discuss with extrem positions!!!
Extrem positions are not and should not be the guide and ideal, look what extremists are doing with our world.

I think we need an official and democratic instrument to give feedback to some people. And what is more democratic than an election.

and look at magico, he get a feedback and he stopped flaming .... maybe :-)

greetings

Well some players are just *Elite* of the Community and they got their own rules about fairness in 1v1.

Generaly i add everythink what i see but when players can just ask me to stop adding (in send with good manners) i'm able to do it, but most of ppls just spam *rude* emotes like /rude /laugh /stench .

Your system stems from a good thinking but as it is, I believe it wouldn't be any good.

Why do you need a ranking ? What is "fairness" applied to DAOC ?

For me, fairness is based on rules. Very few people cheat on DAOC (radars, macros, buffbots...). Trying to find strategies to be able to buffbot without being noticed would be unfair. Those people are already punished today : GMs ban people if they cheat.

Killing gray people in DF, zerging, straffing is not unfair. It is part of the game and the game was designed to allow this : this is why there is an XP bonus in frontiers, this is why relics are so heavily guarded, this is why straffing makes you miss your style. Those are intended behavior that already have their own mechanics.

PS : your German paragraphs don't help, please translate... :(

1 million of such posts and they all end the same: everyone has his own definition of what is fair, and your wikipedia definitions help nothing, as they are too general and don't fit to the daoc setting at all.

One thinks not adding a 1vs1 is fair, the next thinks not helping a realm mate is unfair, the next sees no honor in a RR 11 fighting a 1vs1 against a RR 2 and so on and on and on...

Stopping to write in German language in this section of forum could be a nice start for the fair-attitude

To my mind, most of player don't care about forum, so they won't participate in any vote. A "Fair player" title should be based on player action, not on forum feedback.
An election of "worst player" is not a good idea. Some players could be very proud to get this title... and will try to do their worst to get it :D

Hard to admit but Holsten is right with his post, and anyway we don´t need another ranking that Holsten will lead forever....

now you can guess if it´s fairest or unfairest player of the server

and ofc the dg tactic that gives fair opportunities in all number or rr of enemies.
Red is dead even if its 1v1 or solo or what ever :P not even 1 exception :D. No need to complicate things and ofc
their best situation a already started fight in progress. They love to mingle and take a piece of the pie.
Number of enemies and rr are irrelevant .

Locked.

The topic has been discussed before and, every time that happens, the thread gets abused and escalates quickly (this one is a prime example).

Edit: Cleaned and unlocked upon request. One more chance to discuss the meaning of fairness, but please do so in a civilised and orderly fashion.
