RvR GM to me would be a GM that is dedictated to interacting with the community to provide interesting challenges that get even non-RvR players interested in dusting off their old armor and venture out in to the frontiers.

Possible scenarios include:

Bledmeer faste has been captured by evil forces from the underworld. Whichever realm defeats the leader of these invaders gets [insert non-balance affecting fun reward here]

Drachengarde has been declared outlaws by the king - follow the server-wide broad message to hunt them down and take their scalp [insert random non-balance affecting fun reward here e.g. 'unwashed scalp of holsten the evil']

The horns of war are sounding, capture the enemy relic within the next 2 hours for a [insert random non-balance affecting fun reward here]

I guess I made my point.

I think some people have misunderstood what a GM is.

A GM is a person who looks from the sideline and interfere if rules are violated.

We recently decided to be even less interfering with the players which was also explained in the forums.

Also those events you described could easy be set up by players themselves and do not require a GM to interfere with the players.
Got any questions? Submit them to me and I will try to get them answered in our grab bag !

Just don't.
RvR area is enough empty, creating another BG will just drain people away from action area :/

Actually, with the exception of the relic raid example, non of these events could be done by players without violating the rules. Clearly, we disagree what a GM is. Maybe I should rephrase and call it a community-manager or 'fun person on the staff that is interested in keepin good relations with the players and wants to see the server and it's community grow'.

I am not really looking for a big argument here, bu you are a very good example of someone who is well suited for the kind of 'job' you describe - behind the scenes, making sure the day-to-day operations of the server are going smoothly. The kind of person I envisage for helping to make RvR more attractive would have to be someone very different, no doubt.

When we told you we would be less interfering it also meant you are allowed to make public posts suggesting player movements.

Threads like the "solo'ers go to odins" and the like are okay.

You are also okay to make a thread saying "Today we will defend keep X come fight us".

So no, you are free to host these events as players.

Do you mean joust events or battle grounds, which are nearly the same, just without statistics?

I was not a fan of joust events either.

What is open pvp? The magic of daoc is 3 realms, not pvp fights...

Im sure he meant RvR. Wouldn't discuss this into death that he mentioned PvP as player attacks another player and not a mob.

You wont find RvR in other MMOs, there are always just 2 realms. RvR is daoc expression. And since people dont want to check their score, why is herald and hall of fame on this page?

RvR is not limited to 3 realms. RvR is that you have players which are of your same faction which you cooperate with to kill players of another faction. In a real PvP environment there is no cooperation and basically everybody kills or can kill everybody.

Origin

In 2001, Mythic Entertainment introduced a new team-based form of PvP combat with the release of Dark Age of Camelot and called it Realm versus Realm.[1][4] In RvR, players of each realm team up to fight against players from the opposing realms in team-based combat. This can include normal skirmishes between rival groups that is common in other PvP systems, but also consists of objective-based battles such as taking and holding keeps or capturing enemy relics.[5]

RvR is based on daoc architecture... Even in real pvp you cooperate. Higher ranked/ equipped player usually get ganked by the lower ones = cooperation...

But its not what i wanted to talk about...
OF rvr is just boring - a ram with wheels that cannot move? A keep that looks like my house? And maps containing same guilds only? New players cannot usually join rvr just cause of they cant get a group and solo they are getting ganked by stealthers...

The key is "team based" PvP. Mythic may have introduced the term RvR but applies to other games too.
