Guard missions are indeed a nice way to get action started in alb/mid frontiers. But I agree that keep capture missions would fit to DAoC a lot better and would probably be even better for triggering that action.

Zai and myself have had many good debates about the pros and cons of gaurd missions. Obviously Zai is against them, and I am for them to a degree. I think they are a nice way for people at low RR to gain some RR's to allow them to compete better. I also think they are a nice way for the people that play at the dead hours of night to still be able to gain RP's. I will readily admit tho that if they made it a keep taking mission instead it would work or as Ichi said, it would fit better into the mold of DAoC RvR.

My other idea I threw out was that as you gain RR's the rp's earned drop. So from 4L0-5L0 you would get like 1250 rps' per task. From 5L0-6L0 maybe only 1000 rps. Then have it drop 250 rps per full RR after that. This way the lower RR's can still use them to get some RR's early on in frontiers RvR, but when they got to a point where they should be able to compete they would be less encouraged to do them.

For that, god invented the log scaling :)

what has more to do with rvr? Zerging enemys or killing npc. And guess what brings more rp/h... guardtasks, by far.

I would readily agree w/ you Holsten, except that tasks should not be giving you more rp/hour if the action was sustained. From my own point of view it seems that alot of the taskers that do RvR do so because there is no action for them in normal RvR. I play during American Prime time, and there is usually one of 3 phases of RvR going on at that time.

1. Zerg action- This is usually one realm that changes as the night goes on. Mids will come out with a fg or more and kill everything in sight. Solo's, duo's, trio's... makes no difference. Then the action dissappears and a little later Albs come out and do the same, or Hibs. Its like a roller coaster of 1 realm killing all action around and then it repeats w/ another realm doing the same thing.

2. No action- This happens every night at some point. This is usually after some group or groups have killed any semblence of action. This also happens on the occasional night when there isnt zerg's out. For whatever reason people enjoy the easy laid back approaches of BG's more then coming out to frontier RvR.

3. Happy medium- These nights are VERY rare on American primetime but are what keeps the few RvR people we have during American primetime happy. These nights you get some small man visi groups, some solo's, and some full groups roaming around. Everyone tries to fight people of comparable strenght and most people have fun.

If we had more action comparable to option 3 you would see alot more people doing RvR rather then tasking. Take Goemon as an example. She is a well played infiltrator who does just fine on her own solo in the frontiers. However, if she goes out and gets killed twice in a row by a group of rangers camping AMG and she has no way of getting others to help her clear them out then what is she supposed to do? Do you just waste hours donating RP's to people or do you maybe go do a few gaurd tasks to get some rp's for the night?

Some people need to understand that in order to sustain action during the low population hours you must sometimes let the solo or small man groups live and thereby give more people chances to make some fun in frontiers. Most people I talk to would much rather earn slightly less rp's and be doing fun consistant RvR then tasking, but too many times that option is taken away by FG's killing any action around.

Guard task never give more RPs than RvR.
Those who don't guard task cannot judge it, because they just don't understand that guard tasks are mainly done to pull enemies to RvR. ^^

depends on the level of proness in guardtasikng i would think... open every first gate, relogg after each mission to a char at missi npc to get a new one... i would think 8k rp/h possible with guardtasks (although you are right, never done such and just guessing). While zerging you will never reach more than 6 k rp/h in the long run.

I'm afraid that's fiction... Who would ever want to end up doing guardtasks for hours and hours straight? Even ganking soloers is more remunerative...
