I have a friend who wants to play on Albion. Wondering if Minstrel's are any good here? Are they viable for end game pvp? I remember them being able to solo half decent back in the day.

they are able to solo pretty good.

I can't speak for higher levels, but my minstrel is level 10 at the moment and he solos reds easily as long as he has a Filidh pet to heal.

Solo reds easily at level 10

With a heal pet its pretty easy. Anyway you should go for yellows with camp bonus, or oras w/o camp bonus, since you dont gain anything by killing reds except less exp since it takes ages to kill.

you gain e-peen by killing reds. just like a theurg can solo a red or grape con mob by burnign 1-2 bars of power on pets. and then sit for 10 minutes regening

but back on topic. minstrels are way overpopulated. all they do is run guard missions day in and day out. because climb walls is OPed. until they manage to make npc archers have more than 10 hp and hit for anything considerable, they are pretty much a joke.

as for heal pets. it not as much of a gravy train as you might hope. no heal pets in dungeons (the heal pet goblin shaman in barrows dont heal on uthgard). and the main heal pet in cornwall is ghost type (not minstrel charmable). so until arawnite shamanesses, you are looking at struggling to get from lvl 20ish to nearish lvl 34 with either no heals, or having to haul a filidh from salisbury all the way to west cornwall. once you have shamaness tho, its easy.

filidhs (lvl 8-12), huuuuuuge gap....., arawnite shamanesses (34-35), ellyll windchaser (47-48), ellyll sage (52-54?).

Minstrels are hardcore in 1vs1.
Stealth, chainarmor, InstantDDs, Instantstun+Mezz, pet, IP, SoS.


In grps you CAN be very high utility, but noone on Uthgard realizes that and in Endgame nobody runs with Minstrels (Black Adders only exception ;P)

I don't know what the arrogant eye rolls are for.. I suppose the elitist attitude of the web extends to an online gaming forum. I should've known. Look, it is easy to solo a red with a low level minstrel with a heal pet. All you do is let it heal you while you swing and cast your DD. I never said it was quick, but if there is nothing in the vicinity and you see a red, then you can kill it easily. I've never died fighting a red, but it takes a lot longer than solo'ing an OJ.

I've played live since 2001 and of all the lowbies, I've enjoyed cab and minstrel. With the right gear, you can take on higher con mobs.
