Zarkor wrote:Also, it has got nothing to do with "reverse engineering the conditions of vanilla DAoC", whatever that may be exactly. It's about analysing the cause of Uthgard's problem and acting according to it in order to solve it fundamentally, just as you would tackle any problem if you intend to do so seriously.
First of all, congrats on failed reading comprehension - that's about the only explanation I can come up with concerning your off-base comments. I am not even disagreeing with your for crying out loud... That aside, let's see: 'vanilla daoc' - daoc as it was 2003 with respect to patch level + available content In any discussion regarding this topic, the only comments from Blue and others I have seen were along the lines of 'no, there won't be custom changes, we recreate the original game and that's that'. My point here was that this is not the solution. You will not recreate the mindset of the players, no matter how closely you can approximate the 'original game' Zarkor wrote:The fact that you claim they should "be thinking about their own solution" baffles me. As if anything the community says is wrong because it comes from the community and "solutions" only are legitimate if they're invented purely by the staff. In other words, every solution the community mentions gets scrapped as a viable option because it didn't come from the right person. What the f*ck dude?
Again, most suggestions, no matter how eloquently phrased, have been rejected in the past. 'My way, or the highway' - that's the bottomline I have taken away from previous debates on the matter. And that won't do, not if 'my way' is to stay clear of the underlying issue and stubbornly push forward (well, pushing is perhaps optimistically phrased, seeing the slow progress) the 'classic agenda'. The problem is not the patch level or even the rvr zone, or whatever else one may blame with respect to Uthgard 'as is', but the fact that people think about RvR differently than they did 8 years ago. My post was trying to emphasize some of the things I see as potential problems there, but clearly that didn't get through.

Who can spray urine farther? Wowee.
Seriously, Uthgard is the best run server I have ever seen. Better than all of the mmog's I have paid for put together. And I don't even have to pay for this. I have been quietly enjoying myself here for well over 3 years and will continue to. I take breaks when I need to.
Just thought I should publicly say this for a change instead.

I’ve been to emain once with my wife, we were xping in the hib frontiers and decided to suicide in emain rather than run back. We made it past AMG so went to suicide on APK and an inf unstealthed and ran after us. We turned round to fight him and he hid again, at which point he got popped by a ranger and we ran up to kill him. We were genuinely excited, it was our first experience in ‘proper’ RvR. The inf died and I sent the ranger a message saying ‘thanks for saving us’ and I got a reply saying ‘fu, leechers’.
Gotta love a ranger calling other people leechers.. oooh the irony

The group that runs up against them can't kill them fast enough because smite clerics have sooooooo many tools at their disposal combined with decent ranged damage with 8 of them dudes doing it!

This is what I think causes more people not to RvR over any settings in RvR. I agree with alot of the ideas of what could improve RvR, but this to me is what causes 75% of the people to not come back out. The sad thing is that I have done similiar things myself, never quite as rude, but I will ask people nicely to please not add my 1 vs 1's. It's tough to balance trying to have fun fair fights and also allow for the natural flow of RvR. Also, Zarkor and Bawwww, I know that saying that its Blues' server as a reason to just "deal with it" is not a valid argument. However, as Lasatard and others have pointed out, I only use that because it has been repeated countless times by GM's when certain suggestions were given. I'm not trying to push the mentality that you should always just keep your mouth closed, play the game, and smile, but rather just that there is no reason to get upset about it and let what is allready a great, and yes it is great, server get reduced in the forums because it doesnt fit the vision of what a few others feel it could potentially be.

Lasastard, you're basicly saying the staff doesn't give 2 ****** whether or not to make 'custom' measures to improve RvR. I guess you're right to an extent, which is a shame.
RonELuvv, if the encounters in endRvR wouldn't be as hard to come by (scarse, takes ****** of time and effort to be able to face them), the reactions of the players would be a LOT more carefree, just as they are in the BGs. Sh!t just doesn't matter as much there cus its such a casual environment anyway.
Transform endRvR into a more casual friendly environment and the mindset WILL follow. It's only logical...
In defense of truth-to-experience.
