Hey folks. I'm a long time player of DAoC live servers. I have come to reap the fields of DAoC's glory days.

What's the realm balance like? I have played all three realms for extensive periods and appreciate them all. That being said, I'd like to commit to one and plan on rolling a Sorc, Eld, or RM.

Which realm most needs another player?

Point taken very hard, as relic hoppers are the bane of live servers at the moment, and I hate it with a passion.

Any particular classes Mid's pining for or would I do well to just stick with my RM?

8v8 action seems pretty balanced. When it comes to solo play you should prefer Mid over Hib and Alb. I think Mids dont even know that you can go out with less than 8 or 16 people

depends on what you mean by balance? by population relatively even, it changes often....the relic argument seems irrelevant, the bonuses are not that high, 2% per relic I think here, not 10% per.

Mids are OPd, they are the only realm with celerity, yet also have BOF/SOS, game was never played this way, but this server does. combine that with charge, but nothing to negate it, no bodyguard, no speed warps, no demoralization (again game never designed to be played this way, but this server does, checks and balances are gone). casters have no TOA bonuses, and NF moc, so they are not a threat to charge tanks as well. I had never seen 3 zerker groups until I came here...

albs are albs, a good group can beat anyone, but they are a rarity since it takes at least 5-6 different classes to make an effective one.

very difficult to play hib here, bards are pretty bad, no TOA bonuses hurts them, and no group purge, caster dmg is awful unless you run a debuff group, but again casters are rough here given the charge tanks

Yet I still play here, they say OF RAs are in the progress which will make the server great. IMO the game was best then, every realm was different, each realm had its own OPd abilities, CC mattered. "Balance" is boring, its WoW, every realm has the same abilities. OF was not completely balanced, but it was close, and I think "skilled" players shined more back then, aka a healer couldnt put up DI3 and watch the fight. But its really fun to play OF, nice to see player crafted weapons again, no artifacts, and its free....I still enjoy playing here

Balance is like it has been always

Mid = easymode
Alb = not easy but almost unbeatable if played well
Hib = Hardcore, every mistake leads to death
Nefcait : Bard
Gua : Enchanter

mid caster group!

I'd say the reason that casters here suffer for dmg is not just the lack of TOA/Old RAs, but more how the escape tools were distributed in NF, and which classes can afford to take defensive RAs.

Thuergs can all seem to afford PD. Sorc has RR5 god mode. What does cabby have? Never see cabbies with PD here. Theyre easy to kill if they are ever in range.

Eld can RR5 away in a hurry, mentalist can prevent an over extended tank from attacking them with RR5. What does a chanter do to self peel? MOC PBAE? guarded PBAE? wont work normally. and most chanters dont take PD either it seems, trying to get their DPS up as much as possible. Plus every spell the chanter has is 1500 range so theyre just easy to catch with the train. SoS can save them once i guess.

makes dropping debuff nukers pretty easy. which takes away a lot of dmg from casters.

But mid caster group is still my favorite.

well there are several problems connceted to cabby and especially ench regarding old ra´s.
first with nf ra´s mana ra´s are way to expensive as mana refills normally are granted by items witch you dont have so you have to spend twice the amounts of RSP´s into mana ras with NF-ra´s for less refill then you would have to pay with old ra´s. but you have get those especially as an chanter as nuking with a partly skilled baseline nuke eats a hell of alot mana. on the other hand does this compleatly deny your chance of getting pd.
and on top of that are debuff nukers not dealing the proper dmg due to a compleatly bugged debuff behaviour (wich on life is the reason for the lack of defensive rr5´s).
