you still have a bit of realm pride shining through(seeing as how your post is so anti-Mid) sadly, zerging and adding, as one of the few remaining aspects of RvR 'realm pride', is so heavily looked down upon that, as you say, you're damned if you do it. retaking keeps is only done for DF purposes, rather than realm pride. retaking relics is only done for damage purposes, rather than realm pride. as someone said earlier, when the game is as matured in its years(10 years!) as it is, the realm pride stuff gets old for many players. as for xrealmers? well, it would be more of a problem if the general community sentiment was towards the feeling of realm pride(on live circa 2002), but since it's not, there's really no big deal about them. even though the server attempts to emulate the mechanics of the classic era, you can't also try to emulate the community of the classic era when the players themselves(and their attitudes towards how the game is played) have changed much since those years. is it a bad thing? yes and no. certainly, i play one realm and sometimes i'm sad that people would rather engage in PvP than RvR. however, it's still a fun game, and I can choose to have fun on my own terms while still respecting how people wish to play. I just avoid emain most of the time. ![]() |

I disagree. This won't stop xrealming. It won't even curb it. First of all, we need to stop and define what cross realming is because the OP and others are insinuating that having characters on multiple realms is cross realming. Playing on different realms is NOT cross realming. Sharing or obtaining any information about or that could effect RvR from an enemy realm IS cross realming. Example: Player A is playing an alt on Alb and hears that there is a relic raid forming. If that player decided to log on to the defending realm based on the knowledge he obtained from Alb, THAT would be cross realming. If instead he stayed logged onto his Alb, ignoring his Hib alt and resisting the urge to tell his Hib friends, he would NOT be cross realming. If, however, information is learned only through one's own realm, then any decided action is fair game. Example: Player A forms an 8 man Alb group, and roams Emain. There happens to be 3 other 8 man Alb groups, and not much else out in Emain. It would NOT be cross realming for Player A to log out of Alb, and log in his Hib alt to form an 8 man Hib group, as long as he did not communicate any information to his Alb friends. The Albs then have someone to fight, and so does Player A and 7 other Hibs players. Everyone is happy, and the server benefits by having some good ol' 8v8 RvR (hopefully). The bulk of cross realming, particularly arranged fights, happens in IRC. There is nothing Uthgard staff can do about that, unfortunately. Sharing information across realms hopefully doesn't happen that often. I know that in my alliance, I have personally witnessed an impressive level of restraint by the players who play on different realms. No one I know wants to share information, or personally benefit from information that they have learned on another realm. It just isn't fun to do that, and it absolutely ruins other peoples' fun. However, no one is harmed by players who simply play in a different realm while abiding by the server rules. Players need a change of pace at times, and want to experience another realm or play the underdog when one realm is overpowering the others. Would you rather have players get sick and tired of Hibernia and quit the game out of boredom because they can't play on another realm? That just doesn't make any sense to me. |

I agree wholeheartly with you m8. And the same sentence is valid for the ppl that plays a stealther class, that is already overpoered and bugged to more overpowerdness here on uthgard. Where is the fun when u will win 100% of fights, no matter what you do? Where is the fun when win in 4 shots,or when You almost lose, you vanish and you win? Where is the skill? where is the challenge? I really don't see any skill or fun involved in it. |

sry but there's nothing competitive in Uthgard. DAOC, unlike many other games, has a level system linked to pvp instead of only pve ... high rrank > low rrank ... easy as that. There's nothing competitive in high rank groups farming low ranks groups or even grinding solo players ... so talking about "people want competitive play" is bullshit. And if you are not blind you can see it every hour in Emain. If people really want competitive play you should not see 8v8groups adding soloers ... they do all time and the worst thing is that "high ranked guild 8v8groups" are the ones that do it the most. If people reallly want competitive play you should see all 3 frontiers playable and divided by playstyle ... zerg, 8v8, solo/duo/trio ... in fact only Emain is alive and everyone add eachother (OFC because they were added before so they are allowed to ... ofc). Adders, hr campers, zerg vs 1fg, 1fg vs soloers, highrank adding lowrank fights ... you see this everyday and done by the most people that whyne about "respect" and "competition". You/They don't want "competition" they just want to farm RPs the easiest/fast way in order to lvlup they rrank ... Uthgard atm is only about that so I see no reason against xrealming to farm better. respectable and competition seeking players ? you can count them on a pair of hands ... guilds ? one hand to count them is very enought. People filling their mouths about "respect" and "competition" ? too many ![]() Last edited by Lemming on Aug 02, 2011 20:50, edited 2 times in total.

That is true, sadly but true. I got 100% of times added, zerged, stealthzerged by very high rr "players" (IRL losers) who do that on daily basis. And no matter wich you realm you play, those losers are on all of 3 realms, nothing excluded. |

funny thing is that usually these are the ones who yell about "no add" "respect" play ... ****** them and ****** their hypocrisy I like big butts

I would personally like to see a timer put in place (maybe 1 hour) so if you switch realms you must wait a bit of time before logging into another. This allow's people to play different realms but prevents alot of the negatives of allowing people to play multiple realms. I agree with almost every post on here to some degree or another. People add, people zerg, 90% of the community is only concerned about 2 things: 1. Getting rp's and 2. Have some fun.
Some people say that those 2 things above are against each other but I personally couldnt disagree more. I will TRY and kill any solo Alb or Mid I find. I dont care what RR they are (as long as they are worth RP's), but I also try and respect other peoples fights. If I add in a fight 99% of the time it's because somebody is outnumbered and I'm trying to even up the numbers. When I play on my ranger I have fun fighting 4L2 or 11L+ chars. Yes, I want RP's. Yes, I want RR's. Whats the point in playing a game if your not keeping score? I will admit that lately when I've played my bm we have killed and ganked some duo's and solo's (sorry again Zai), and I wish we didnt, but it happens. It also happens to me when I'm solo on my ranger. One persons play style is another persons waste of time and vice versa. Thats the best aspect about this game is that it can accomodate all the different playstyles in one. I like your idea Lemming, but its one of those that sounds good in theory but in practice it just doesn’t work. For starters it’s hard for people to break old habits, with this particular old habit being Emain RvR. People know where to go for RvR and if everyone starts making zones its going to take a LONG time to change the culture to get everyone to start doing that. Also, lets say you do convince everyone to go to HW for small man and 1 vs 1…. What happens when a fg comes threw the mile gate to go take keeps in Alb land? I bet they arent super nice and leaving the solo’s and small men alone. They will roll them for easy rp’s. This has been tried time and time again, and if you move the main RvR zone the problems will just follow you. |

There is no such thing as adding in RvR, if it was played right. One realm mate helping another to defeat a mortal enemy, is what realm vs realm is. Allowing your own realm mate to die, to the hands of an enemy, because it makes you look bad, should just be called PvP. And that is why it is said so much. Realms is not a big factor on this server. Its about X fight vs X player. Freely allowing xrealming on shareds and much later on live, has made players lazy to how the game was designed for, and made everyone have a pvp mentality, even if its RVR.
Now yes many like xrealming and it will tick them off if they cant anymore. But its the choice the staff need to make. Allow it and keep the same kind of RvR play or fix it and possibly start the slow process of getting people out of that mentality and hopefully in the future and better RvR experience for all. |

Well ... also in RVR there can be the respect of the enemy and such things (or disrespect of a realm mate).
Have pride for YOURSELF ... don't add ... don't grind soloers with FGs ... don't zerg just because you suck ... don't zergfarm RPs till highRRank and then come and ask for "soloing respect" ... have pride for YOURSELF, then you can talk about having pride for your realm. Pride (also "realm pride") is about honour ... no honour, no pride, or better, your pride is worth nothing. I like big butts

Uthgard is not a RP Shard. Players don't have to focus on their realm/class/guild-roles. So there is no realmpride.
I can imagine there is much realmpride by guardtasking ... But it's no fun for many people. Games ARE made for fun. There were RP-Servers ... for people who enjoy the game with realmpride (and so on) only. Best example: Guilds. The people WANT to play together. And guilds also decide to play together in other realms for VARIETY! Some people may not expierence this feeling in a guild. I don't know. And for those who are just able to thing in roleplay/realmpride-way: Is it not allowed to have mercy? ![]() aylwynn warden

There is no realmpride!
People don't get killed cause of the "war" but because of the rps they're worth. When you prefer 1vs1 you don't add "duels/1vs1 fights" because you don't want to get add aswell. Uthgard till 2003!
