I can't really answer your question since I never played a Pala on Uthgard but still give you my thoughts on the topic.
If you are a Saracen Pally you should go thrust. If you just started the char you should also think about starting a briton or highlander beacuse you can easily autotrain slash till 50 and have more specpoints then. But as you intended this is also possible with a saracen but your melee damage will be slightly lower and your blocking better. specs that sound good in theory to me (as I mentioned they might be utter crap on uthgard, but maybe it can give you an orientation); 50 Shield - high blocking 44 Thrust - at 44 you get a snare style which is a followup to an anytimer, probably very nice if you are chasing melee DDs attacking your support/cloth wearers. 37 Chants - always second best chants besides shield chant and resists 5 Parry 50 Shield - high blocking 50 Chants - good chants for even more defense 29 Slash (with autotrain) - sidesnare and anytimer with very high to hit; but you will still miss much more and your damage will be lower (no idea if the better dps chant can negate that) 11 Parry Always be aware that you are a pure blockbot on Uthgard because 2h is bugged. So I think 42 shield is not an option because your damage with your 1h is much too low to compensate the worse defense. At first I would decide if I wanted to do at least some damage with my mainhand or if your only purpose of playing is guarding others, stunning, holding aggro etc. and then do a low weapon or a high weapon spec. For the least always go saracen. I am intersted to see what experienced palas would recommend and if I am correct with my theoretical assumptions |

im sorry but 37 chant and 50 chant is a terrible idea, spec depends on what you want to be really. thrust is for rvr(44 thrust) and slash is more damage for pve(depending on which mobs but in general slash does more damage), 50 chants will not give you anything special, i believe 48 chant is the last purple AF and that is all you need, if you want to lower chants with more pts into thrust, try to at least have 42 shield and 42 chant, that way you can get purple ENDU and slam which is more important. It is more difficult to land side snares so thrust is a better choice if you want your pally to go rvr strictly. If you autotrain slash without chants then chances are you will not have enough pts for thrust spec to go 50 shield neither enough pts for 48 chant with 50 shield, autotraining chant is the hardest to do but can be rewarding in the end, autotraining slash does no benefit to thrust spec so keep that in mind ^^ pallys that are slash that arent autotraining can go up to i think 39 slash 42 shield 48 chant and 15 parry or other spec would be 29 slash 42 shield 48 chant and 30 parry(which i dont know why ...), thrust spec not autotraining should probably be 44 thrust, 42 shield 42 chant and rest parry and enough pts for 2h for back snare if possible xD. 50 shield is a tough thing to put in and i dont hear many pallys that are 50 shield, maybe one. Good luck with your decision! |

Most common spec on uthgard is:
46 chants 44 thrust - snarecombo 42 shield I'd recommend you to go with this. |
|
This. Side slasher is a pretty terrible way to snare, the detaunt thrust chain is really the way to go. |
|
Yes, this is a good way for rvr paladin - snare after slam (use fastest dirk for snare and small shield for fast slam) and red endu chant. |

^this
^ the ******? |

also...
30 slash (AT) 42 chants 39 2h 42 shields hybrid paladin like a boss. |

before i'll make a thread on my own i'll ask here for your ideas on my target spec...i usually play solo, so i don't really need a snare-style...melee-defense is more important to me...
i was thinking of one of those two: parry/shield split: 46 chants 42 shields 35 parry 29 thrust shield+: 46 chants 50 shields 22 parry 29 thrust which one is better concerning melee-defense? I think more parry and less shield will do better, as i'll have, in total, more points in defense-skills + many enemies have 2 weaps, for which i might need high parry...on the other side 50 shield will give me a lot of weapskill for shield, so i can try to deal my maindmg using after block slams and stuff, which will deal more dmg and have higher chance to hit due to more weapskill... i really dunno which one might be better, so any hints are welcome ![]() btw: i AT chants, just if u wonder, how i did the spec ![]() |

When you want to play solo go for more weaponspec.
46 chants 42 shield 39 weapon 20 Parry get MoB IV or V and enjoy ![]() Played this spec on an other freeshard years ago in duel arena and it works very good! Uthgard till 2003!

what's so bad about doing main-dmg using shield-styles? with 50+11+x skill that should be pretty high ![]() ![]() thrust doesn't give any good styles at 34 (3rd style in evade-chain...even if it gets fixed it's a third style still) or 39 (side-style with combat-speed debuff, which has lower GR than after-block style, which as a stun and is sort of an anytimer)...44 is too high i think so i really wanna stick with 29...but 50 shield, 22 parry or 42 shield and 35 parry...can't decide ![]() Last edited by Jezzmin on Jul 03, 2011 09:35, edited 1 time in total.

Shield styles have no to hit bonus! ... no style chains and only stun as effect.
Uthgard till 2003!

A note about the 44 thrust style chain. the opener to that is a detaunt with no to-hit. add in pally weaponskill and it becomes a real pain to land. if you dont whiff the first style, you probably will miss the second.
---------- Any thoughts on 44 vs 46 chants? If i can bear autotrainign till 40, i was looking at: 44 chants 42 shield 39 2h 29 slash this was the cookie cutter 8man pally spec on live. not sure how that translates to uthgard. but the 27s rear snare in 2h is really nice to have. ---- if i give up AT at 24: 44 chants 42 shield 39 2h 25 thrust or 28 slash |
|
you can AT slash till 48 with (relatively) no problem.
I did it on my 2h pally which is 50-36-46 atm. I just went 2h crush till 40 then removed the points in crush and kept slash at 10-11 until 48, and just expoed in party (you r never gona exp alone anyway with a 40+ char, especially a pally who is grouped so easly regardeless of his damage). Nobody is gona blame your for the damage variance, which is, on red-purples, hardly noticeable even by yourself who are watching the combat log and you dont lose WS (hit chance) due to the high 2h skill |
|
ATing slash is a given. the other lines are just fine for leveling, and crush actually might be superior.
its ATign chants that is a pain. autoting till lvl 20 cake, because chants pretty much suck at low level anyways. it isnt until blue endo (lvl 22) that a pally really starts being a great class. making it to 40 or 48 without speccing chants on the other hand takes a serious commitment. and that committment means a lot of groups turnign you down because you dont have the one thing they want a pally for: endo. |
