A question about damage (come laugh at my taunt spam)

I had a couple of fights today where I did much gimpier damage than usual. I only screened the second one, so please forgive me for not having exact info from the first fight.
The first fight was against an Infiltrator. I opened with a Crit Shot that only did 350 damage (should be 2x that). At first I thought I had messed up the Crit, but when I switched to spear and hit him with Engage (.59 growth taunt) I only did ~125 damage. This is with a 5.4spd MP thrust spear. My highest damage hit against him was only ~150. I normally do 200+ damage per hit to infiltrators. I was confused by my encounter with the PD 4 Infiltrator but I thought it must be a fluke. Later I had a fight with Arlen (solo 8l1 Armsman), and this was my damage spread: http://img17.imageshack.us/f/seyhagimp.jpg/ I hit him for 118-155. He hit me with what I assume is an any-time pole style for 260-289 (I have PD 3 and yellow AF buff). He is slash spec. My composite damage stat is 226.5 (175 strength + 278 dex / 2). My spear spec is 44+18 I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with this damage. I guess my question is, what formula is used to calculate damage so that an Armsman does nearly twice as much damage as my Hunter with about the same speed and quality weapon?

Thrust spear ... gratz

Let's say I equiped the mythical crush spear. 118 + 20% = nothing
|
|
Let's say you're a hunter.
|
|
Hunters are on the same damage table as Skalds.

Let's say you equipped the mythical [sic!] SLASH spear and understood how addition and multiplication work. Easy 15% damage more.
But of course you are not looking for advice on how to improve yourself, because you are perfect already. So if you lose a fight it's the games fault and you come here to QQ. ![]() For everyone else: - It's your own fault if you play a ****** class - At least use the right weapon - There is no reason to melee a fulltank on a ranged class with stealth and a speed shout some calculation trivia: 118 + 20% = 118.2 |

God, you're a sad, jaded person. I asked a question about damage mechanics. Basically, how do damage tables work? I piggy-backed this on strange experience I had dealing unusually low damage to an Infiltrator (possible bug). This has nothing to do with QQ (I didn't die to Arlen). I'm trying to better understand an aspect of the game.

Why don't you just ask that then, instead of spamming useless blah about your hunter?
on live: no one knows for sure (besides mythic) on dol: its roughly correlates to ws/af on uthgard: good luck having blue give out a formula Edit: also i have enough of a live and im only a jerk when people try to be stupid as hard as they can, but thanks for your considerations |

Because I wanted to give as much information as possible in the form of practical examples? Because I was going to use information in this thread to explore what I thought could be a bug? Only you would automatically infer some dark, alterior motive from that. edit: If reading a couple of paragraphs of information on an internet forum is enough to give you an aneurysm then maybe you should find another hobby.

Practical information is obviously completely useless to that question, especially if you present it like a QQ post.
Or how does knowing your hunter hits for ****** help anyone to know how melee damage works? |
|
The armsman is hitting on Studded you on Plate armor.
Armsman got more WS, higher growth rate styles and if 50 polearms more 2h bonus. Would be strange if you would do the same amount of damage. Uthgard till 2003!

I apologize that my intent was not made clear. I want to better understand how damage works in this game, in part because I may have encountered a bug while fighting an infiltrator. I provided two examples so that you could say "In this case you did X damage because of Y and Z." I do not expect to do the same damage as a main tank hitting on a lop-sided resist table. I wanted to know how the damage is calculated. Which is what I asked.
I am well past the QQ phase of my Hunter career. I have documented the problems with the class on this server. All of which have proven to be, or are most likely a result of, deficiencies in the server code. Not because the Hunter is a ****** class, like you said.

Well hunters would be a ****** class, even with the bugs fixed. Hallo, live server experience.
For how damage works: AFAIK this has never been tested enough to have a formula proven correct. So going to pendragon or sleeping with a mythic employee is your best shot. The DOL formula roughly correlates with ws/af as I've said above. So double the weaponskill means double the damage. |
|
This isn't live. With NF RAs and Uthgard's wonky classic setting, the right fixes would make the Hunter a nicely balanced class here. Anyway, thanks for the info on the lack of info. What do you think my chances are of sleeping with a Mythic employee?

For advice on that topic I would like to point you to Charlie Sheen. |
